Paper Licence no more

Featured Replies

Thanks for that Graham. It did always seem a bit pointless to me.

Sent from my Galaxy S5

I do not have a photocard, but there is no mention of cost if I do need to update anything.

Better be free, mine was referred to as an 'historic document' by Enterprise last time I used them.

No photo for me either, I've still got my original green paper one.

Mine's Pink!

Photo one sucks have to be renewed every 10 years

Money con! Costs £17 to renew!

Mines is due in may! Grrrrrr

I thought it became an offence not to have a photo-DL in 2010.

I cant think of any other reason why I finally got one that year.

Me too :giggle:

Wrong!

I had to pay to renew mine last year!

The last time I hired a car they preferred the paper licence and said from this year it would be the only one the accepted as the plastic one could be faked ,also a company I worked for required to see your Paper licence every year.still if 15 year girl can get through customs is anybody checking any more.

No old paper licences are still valid, and even after changes in June still are according to DVLA website. You only need to change to photo licence if you change your name, or address.

Mine was £20 to renew last year and now the price has gone down.

You may find that you will need to keep your National Insurance number about your person from June, as the only way a third party can check whether you are currently licenced will be to go on line with both the Driver number and the NI number.

Alternatively you may be required to call the DVLA on YOUR phone to allow the check to be made.  The call costs about £1.50 per minute (which is why you will be paying for the call).

The whole business has not been fully thought through, but that's politicians for you.

Exactly. I've got a card printer here and could do one for about 80p!

The card has to be renewed every 3 years, subject to completing a medical declaration, but there is no need to change the photo and there is no charge.
