17 or 18 in wheels for Octavia Elegance? ?

Featured Replies

You will find the brand of tyres makes more difference - The Dunlops that were on my 18" Golus had super stiff sidewalls and you felt every bump in the road.

I've 18" Turbines on mine, and while it could be a little smoother overall I've found them ok, and I have to cover some crap roads around Dublin. You can see em in the picture, you considering the change just for the look of it? Have you done it up on the configurator or just looking at the brochure?

when you hoping your car will be delivered?

Nice motor mate, hope we don't pull up beside each other in Dublin, you with your L&K and all that ....

I had 18", but this time I went with 17" and honestly I find them perfectly fine.

The handling weakest point of my 4x4 is in the too soft suspension setup.

I understand different tastes, but 18" (or more) are just for look.

I too have an octavia combi 2.0tdi with alaris wheels but with sports suspension on order, due to built week 15 too. Hoping ride won't be too firm on our roads!! Will let you know what I think when I get it! Was even thinking of deselecting the option after reading some of the comments here and other places but too late now!!

We could always swap if you found the ride too firm!

What colour did you go for?

Silver with the sport chrome pack that the dealers were offering back in January. Was very close to going for the metal grey but settled on silver. Bought in Park Motors, gave a good trade in! What colour did you order?

Went for the metal grey, with the sport pack too, nearly went with silver too! Yours should look great in silver with the sports pack, 18in wheels and slightly lowered suspension!

Road noise isn't intrusive, anything is better than the standard 17's which look lost in those big arches.

Guys come on ! The wheelarches are big for a reason - when you load your car heavily, when you drive 4-5 people in it...

The Octavia is meant to have more reserves of space in its wheelarches than, say Audi or BMW, as its main selling point is the practicality of course - so we shouldn't complain too much I think.

Don't think 15mm will make much of a difference!! There's a good few photo's on a dutch skoda forum that has a few photos of combi's with alaris wheels and would struggle to tell which have sport suspension and which have not!!

Basically, it's a firm ride but also far too wallowy on undulating roads

Wallowy? Must just be what you are used to, but try my old 06 Focus. Now that is wallowy. But also a lot more comfortable in every sense.

The Octy in comparison has very little wallowing. But its also an awful lot firmer.

Only thing to bear in mind is factory sports springs lower 15mm whereas Eibach Pro lower 35/30mm. Some say that even factory sports are not low enough as the car does look like it's on stilts compared to a Golf GT or Passat Sport or Audi A3 Sport. Eibach will be more like Audi S Line suspension.

One thing I have never understood is that the factory sport suspension option results in a car that sits lower that a standard vRS!

So basically if Mat changes his 18 inches of Dunlop for 17 inches of something better, combined with his new springs and dampers, he should be driving a Rolls :coffee:

No, a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaag

No, a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaag

Stop nicking my saying :D

Perhaps Mat could call his new car a Jaguar Octavia. Bit of a ring to it don't you think?

Although a Skoda Phantom? Now that sounds even better :cocktail:

Nooooo, it will be a Skoda AMG Line !

Nooooo, it will be a Skoda AMG Line !

Somebody wake me up when Matt learns the error of his ways :p
