does the skoda rapid have a small mudflap to the  front of the rear wheel, and I wonder the logic of fitting it.

Yes - My Spaceback has it - its actually an overhanging part of the rear week arch liner, rather than a standalone mud flap.

High speed reversing.

Aero effects a la formula1 - diverts air around the tyre to reduce drag.

I'd always thought these were to cut down turbulence in the arches and reduce noise.

They get cracked up with debris thrown up from the front wheel, even with front mud flaps fitted.
