New car parts have arrived.

 

Boy, I never thought they'd be quite as big nor the box as heavy...

 

I've gone for the 330mm 6-pot kit to replace / upgrade my Brembo GT kit (which I'll probably stick up for sale once these bad boys are fitted).

 

Well packaged, comes in a big box (32kg!):

 

Bit like Russian dolls. Opening the box reveals many more boxes:

 

Decided to go for the ubiquitous Ferodo DS2500 pads. These things are huge! I've added an AA battery for reference.

 

 

Yup, 330mm is rather large! Nice to finally have a bell & rotor setup.

There's a rather beefy mounting bracket, but didn't bother taking photos of that.

Nice kit, but then I am biased. Why not the red kit? Now no excuse not to give your car the odd track sessions!! :P

LOL Vulture indeed. Haven't really thought about it. The downside is that the pads and discs are rather on the worn side, but the upside is I have a full set of brand new seals to rebuild them and have them as new again (not that it needs doing).

I wanted a more discreet OEM-look. And I've had enough of red brake calipers. And Violet / pink or whatever the other colour was didn't really float my boat.

I presume they were a straight bolt on with the mounting bracket Jason? I haven't looked at it in detail yet, only noticed the bracketry and a small bag of thin spacing washers to get it aligned. Oh and some nice steel braided hoses too

 

I  thought it would be useful to have a photo thread as I haven't seen any before (did you take any photos of yours when you fitted them)? A how-to would be nice

Yes, my mate was impressed with the way they went on, looked, and fitted under my wheels (no spacers)

What didn't work out for you? (Sorry if you posted, I haven't searched)

Went through D2:s racepads in 2 months.

They claimed that my rearbrakes were too small and there made these do too much of the braking...

Hopefully with DS2500 pads, I should be OK. The Ferodo ones are good and very well regarded. Jason runs them with the same D2 brakes and I don't think he's on his second set yet!

I am on my second set (still original rotors though), but then I did do a fair amount of track work with them.

 

I was warned not to go with the oem pads that come with the D2 kit, hence going DS2500.

The only small niggle is I am wondering if perhaps the main brake master cylinder isn't up to the job, but no idea if you can uprate those.  They still work awesomely though.

 

They also didn't wear evenly.  I was down to metal at one end and had about 3mm of pad at the other.  I put this down to there being one odd sized piston which affects how it wears due to differing pressures,  Once my current pads are half worn I am going to get them swapped about to even them up.
