A game changer for the UK climate ?

Featured Replies

They do sound particularly interesting for the UK market where the winters are (generally) not especially harsh or snowy for very long (if at all).

Can find any inducation if prices though it what sizes will be available.

Maybe I missed this bit somewhere.

They don't seem to mention if the wear rate is similar to summer tyres either.

I will be sticking to track tyres and winter on mine, BUT on swmbo's car, I was thinking these would be ideal, as she doent cane it in the dry summer months!

Sizes from 15 to 17" rules me out.

Good to see them finally producing an all season tyre. I've long been a fan of Michelin but I've fitted nothing but all season tyres to our cars for the past several years and Michelin didn't sell any until now. Being Michelin you can bet they'll be expensive though.

Just think - if these catch on there'll be no more 'winter tyre' threads too!

And not having the extra expense of swapping over or buying them

and hopefully cheaper as Cosco..

Shark what track tyres do you use mate? Are the pee poor in the wet?

federal RSR's,(215/40/17) and no they are better in the wet (just wet roads) than normal road tyres , the only thing they are not too good at it standing water (very wet roads) , but I think you have to be daft to tackle standing water at speed anyway ! other track tyres like 888's are not so good.... the federal have some tread on though! loud and droney though, so dont buy if you require quiet ! (all tyres with large tread blocks are loud)

nurburgring in the wet with RSR's on ;)

That looks insane mate, hope to hit that place myself this year budget allowing. I just want a tyre that I can leave on all year.. But not drift in a bad way... If you catch me.. Had some fun tonight tho.. 9 degrees.. Down some windy lanes at 3am.. Perfect!

Sizes from 15 to 17" rules me out.

According to the PH article on the tyre, other sizes will be available next year. They are doing an 18" version

Shark mate.. had one of my tyres go today.. huge pot hole and it just sank it. Gonna have to go for some more tyres Monday. Do you know if there is any 'semi slicks' with good fuel rating and a bit quieter? I know I'd be paying more but be interested if you have any knowledge available.. I so a lot of motorway driving is all... cheers in advance!

all semi-slicks are noisy I'm afraid..... I used to use maxxis Z1's, they are not semi-slicks, but the dry grip was good because of the big tread blocks (wet good also!) however, again, this causes noise....

all semi-slicks have large tread blocks, so will be noisey.... they do the yokohoma advan a008 in our size, could be one to try , I have never used it, boss fox and Haydn (niceyellowvrs) have ...

you basically have to have smaller tread blocks for a quieter tyre!

I am a real fan of the RSR as its cheap and effective including wet grip...

BUT : VERY noisy.... AND I loose 5 mpg compaired to my winters.....

its the price you pay I suppose!

one of my friends swears by the michelin PS3 , normal road tyre , but he has been impressed with it on the track.... that may work for you!

be interested to hear how you like them, Hayden uses them on his octy vRs, so does Pete :)

They do sound interesting - until you realise they are directional (by the look of it).

Which way round do you put the tyre on your spare?

Well it looks like marketing works, it seems some people think Michellin invented the all-season tyre, instead of trying to cover up for being last to the party :)

For the spare, you can just get an asymmetric all season or winter tyre. Lots of choices available.

Michelin had previously stated that they completely disagreed with the concept of all-season tyres and refused to produce any, until they obviously noticed how popular all season tyres were becoming and did a massive u-turn. Now not only do they no longer disagree with the concept they actually claim to have invented it!!

It's like Volvo totally disagreeing with large SUV style vehicles over traditional Estates until they started building one

I like the look of these Michelin Crossclimate.

Contacted Michelin cos not all 4 of my tyres will need replacing at same time.  Also I have a perfectly serviceable spare tyre that I don't particularly want to replace to match my main tyres.   This is the response I got from them

"Thank you for your enquiry about the Michelin Cross Climate Tyres.

In an ideal situation, fitting four tyres will give the vehicle the most balance and performance.

However, as it's a summer tyre, you can fit them in pairs with summer tyres on the other axle. Ideally fitting the newer tyres to the rear.

If you currently have winter tyres, as it's 3PMSF (snowflake) marked you can do the same mixing it with two winter tyres on the other axle.

The only separate advice I would offer is if you were fitting them in a winter season with summer tyres on, we do recommend having 4 CrossClimate's on.

So it really comes down to as and when you fit.."

ordered some to be fitted when my new car gets delivered and then I will just flog the factory fitted tyres on ebay. We will see how they compare with the Vredestein Wintrac Extremes I've had on the yeti for the last couple of years. I've got Continental fouir seasons on my VW T5 and they have been fine though not really tested to extremes this last winter.

Just hd my 18" Trinities plus Contis changed to 16" BBS plus these. What a change! Even SWMBO, who considers cars only as means of transport, noticed the extra comfort and reduced noise. Obviously too early to talk of wear (only fitted Friday pm), but whatever it will be worth it. They've changed the whole driving experience, and at £75 a corner fitted I'm a happy bunny!

My winter tyres are  4 years old this year and down to about 4mm,  I'm just debating whether to just switch tyres to the Cross Climate ones and ditch the winter tyres/Wheels entirely as the cost will be similar.
