Changing Shocks.

Featured Replies

I'm getting some Bilstein B8's to go with my Eibach Springs next week. Just wanted to know if it's worth replacing any other items while I'm having it done?

I'd do the top mounts while you're there. Saves having to remove the struts again should they be dud. Then it's just a case of any bushes that look tired, I'd probably be tempted to do the lot if I was investing money on a new spring/shock kit myself.

As a minimum I'd say console bushes, arb bushes and drop links if not already done. Also check for play in the ball joint, condition of the front wishbone bush and the rear axel bushes. The rear spring rubbers can also deteriorate over time.

Same set up as mine, you wont be disappointed.

If you're going to the expense of top end kit like this, I'd refresh the lot, ie top mounts, drop links and also maybe bottom ball joints. Whilst you are on, do the console bushes at the same time, I fitted PSB poly bushes and rate them highly.

Are oe top mounts & Cupra console bushes sufficient? Don't want it too hard.

The OE top mounts are just the job. I think you'll experience more harshness from the Cupra console bushes TBH

Might just get standard bushes then. I have the x type on atm I think. And at last service they were fine.

Not trying to teach u to such eggs but make sure you fit the original dust covers/gaiters on the front b8's. If your current ones are peppered get a pair from skoda or TPS. None are supplied with the bilstein dampers!

New std bump stops on the rear will allow you to re-use the rear dust covers also. Internal bump stops on the front shocks so don't fit the originals ( sorry if u already know) Enjoy the ride, I love mine now :-)

Are the bump stops the same across the fabia range? Eg mk1 1.4 ones will be ok for a mk1 vRS?

Varies with PR code. G-01, G-02 have 6N0412303A. G-03 uses 6Q0412301. G-04 uses 6Q0412301A. (All looked up for a 2005 car)

How different they actually are, I don't know.

You cannot fit bump stops on the front b8 shocks.

You suggested new ones on the rear Chris?

Rears do seem to be common to all models (as far as I can see).

Yes matt, standard oem bumpstops fit the rear b8 shocks fine. Then you can re-use the oem dust guards. Some people use shortened ones when going low but no need with your set up. I've had mine full you the roof with gear and it's fine...

Replace the rear top mounts aswell whilst your at it

Music to my ears that Chris. I'll get the top mounts, bump stops and console bushes ordered up this weekend. Then hopefully next weekend the bilsteins themselves.

Enjoy
