Is my 2010 Scout a duff! Feedback please

Featured Replies

No need for VCDS, £5 and a Bluetooth equipped smart phone will get you a capable fault code reader.

See this link, I bought one and it reads the faults on my 2008 Scout a treat!

I supose as long as it will read and clear the errors, that'll do nicely ;)

...should help a bit ;)

It is definitely not a replacement for VCDS, far from it, but for those in a rush who are unable to get over to someone with VCDS then it might be a suitable quick fix.

Cheaper than the beer tokens too, the recognised currency needed to borrow someones VCDS  :D

Silver1011 I already have a autel maxiscan unit, wish is a great unit can log faults automatically and record data etc, but I thought I read on here or other site that to see haldex detail you need proper kit.

I would be very surprised if the Haldex needed a unique method of reading codes.

As far as I am aware any fault codes on the car can be read through the OBDII port.

You may then need some help to decipher the codes but this is freely available here...

Is the haldex obdII or CAN?

Silver for 20 quid I'll give that a go. I assume it can be used on any vehicle.

The obd readers will only read engine codes and won't tell you about transmission etc. (iirc).

Still very useful to have for the 6 quid or so that they cost (with Torque free app on your phone).

Re. VCID

I've just been doing a comparison of the scans of my two cars, an 11 plate and a 61 plate and noticed that the VCID is the same in many cases between the two when the controller is the same. Both have obviously been scanned with the same machine.

This is reply on VWVortex by Uwe of Ross-Tech in reaponse to to a query about what the VCID is.

No, it's not a factory serial number. It is a control module specific ID generated by VC(DS) which helps us improve the product and provide more accurate support.
