Poor brakes

Featured Replies

I've got a 2014 2 litre 140 4 x 4 with 6 k from new. I'm not happy with the brakes as they aren't that strong, even if i floor the brake pedal it doesn't stop like my other skoda 2wd one. I couldn't do an emergency stop and wouldn't be able to lock the wheels / get the abs to activate on a dry road. I'm going to ring dealer monday but has anyone had any problems

Brakes can vary between cars but I would expect the same level of performance between two Skoda's. There could be air in the line or a problem with the brake servo. Definatley worth mentioning.

or glazed pads if its has done little hard braking

Yes perhaps glazed , they aren't spongy at all just ineffective , like I'm trying to brake with a heavy trailer

If I stand on the brakes on my 2013 170 4x4 the ABS will trigger in the dry and it stops as well as any recent car I have owned. Sounds like something is up with yours, get it looked at and hopefully it will be something simple to sort out.

if I brake sharply in mine 140TDI DSG 2WD, the only thing preventing me from hitting windshield is the seatbelt lock function. Yours doesn't sound right

I'll give them a ring or mention it when it gets first service. Although they are liable to give me a hiding to change pads at the dealers , might get some new pads and change them on the sly

It does sound like you may have a problem with them so they should be covering the cost of changing. I'd be weary of changing them yourself in case you end up doing anything that would void your warranty with a 2014 model

New pads look like they are relatively well priced at Skoda.

Did you do any/much heavy braking when the car was new?

When I got my car first the brakes weren't very impressive compared to the Octavia I changed from. I took it out to a (Very quiet) stretch of motorway, took it to 120 km/h and braked hard to about 40 km/h 2 or 3 times. This was enough to take the glazing off the pads and since then the car stops very well indeed.

It's an ex demo car and has probably been hammered, never again

Compared to my Audi Allroad, I find the brakes on my wife's Superb to be very good.  Sometimes to good to the point of being snatchy when braking quickly in some situations.
