New clutch judder

Featured Replies

Hey, yesterday Darkside fitted their silent 5 speed G60 clutch/flywheel combo to my Polo PD100.

I've noticed when pulling away I get quite severe juddering. It's especially bad on hill starts.

Is this normal?

The car drives totally fine otherwise and I have no vibrations or issues changing gears when on the move.

Cheers

I wouldn't think that is normal no. I'd speak to the fitters and get it checked.

Is this a paddle/semi paddle setup?

If so, I would have thought you'd will need to increase your biting point revs to offset the juddering.

As mentioned, I'd still get it inspected, to be sure.

Thanks for the replies.

This is the kit;

http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/darkside-silent-g60-single-mass-flywheel-clutch-kit-for-5-speed-02j-02a-02r.html

With the standard pressure plate.

It does state on the link that the kit is "judder free" however I don't know if what I'm experiencing is normal for a fully polybushed (diesel engine mount) diesel that has just gone from a DMF to a SMF setup.

It does seem less severe now that I've put some more miles on it but it's not what I was expecting.

Have dropped Darkside an e-mail to see what they think.

Hello,

Just thought I'd post a closing note on this topic in case anybody else stumbles across it in future :)

The judder completely vanished after around 600-700 miles.

I was left with a very annoying rattle but this turned out to be an exhaust mount that had worked itself loose.

The car drives great now and for a polybushed diesel with a SMF it's very smooth.

Cheers
