Juddery gear changes

Featured Replies

Ok so after my engine change im now experiencing a juddery while in / changing gear intermuttantly any ideas think this maybe software related

Knackered mounts?

You said that they fitted a CTHE Engine into your car which was originally a CAVE.

So was there a new CTHE ECU delivered with the CTHE engine?

Usually the old ECU will have had the latest Engine Management software applied,

or the new ECU should have been fitted and all checks done after it was fitted.

...............

So its down to if the engine is correctly fitted and all tightened up.

?

was the Service Campaign done before on the DSG, the Oil changed and the ECU Update done,

or did they do that now.?

There have been new engines fitted then issues with smooth running and issues with the DSG,

so best have them check it out.

VrsGeo required a new ECU i believe after lots of trial and error when the new engine was fitted.

This took rather a long time to sort out.

So i take it,

New Engine, new coolant, new Oil, filter & new Spark Plugs. (new Air Filter, Fuel Filter???)

Anything else on the Worksheet and parts list?

?

Did it need a new Cat, or anything else?

?

How many miles had the car / DSG done before a new engine was fitted, and when was the car first registered?

Goneoffski is correct I did require a new ECU even tho it showed no faults after the new engine was fitted! It also got a new inlet manifold!

Car has done 38k and has its engine replaced at 38k

I was wondering just when it was First Registered (Built) to get an idea of what stage Skoda were at parts wise then.

Did you talk to the Dealership that did the Engine change to see what they say about the judder?

The new engine needs a bit of a settling in, and the DSG will now learn again.

Just do not go too long before taking some action incase there is a problem.

If needs must log concerns with Skoda UK or the Warranty Provider, who ever paid for the Work because it is Guaranteed.

Maybe the Clutch Packs or Mechatronic Control Unit had issues before the engine change but were not that obvious due to the engine being sick.

It maybe is worth getting new engine mounts after they sort this out,

but do not risk doing any mods until all is Right with the Replacement engine & the DSG.

Which gear to which did you experience the "juddering"? Hard acceleration or tootling about? What gearbox mode?

In drive tootling in d4 / d5

So is it still doing it, and is everything else OK. ?

If not do not put off bringing it up with the Workshop Manager or Service Manager where the work was done.

That is something I have had no experience off I must admit.

What actually been happening recently (three separate occurrences this week but never before) is lose of drive on acceleration. Not even hard acceleration, it's like the Mechatronic suddenly puts the box in neutral or engages the clutch to regain drive straight away. NO engine lights, misfires or anything else. I am monitoring that but I am unable to replicate it. It sounds like the lose of drive experienced in Oz... might be my DSG is on its way out. Strangely enough it does not do it in manual, only in "D".

Did the Dealer not tell you that your car did not not require the Service Campaign work?

Proper Job.

Even what the are doing in the UK when the know the box did get Synthetic Oil at the Factory may not be enough really.

I asked on two occasions last year for them to check if my DSG needs the oil changed and two different dealerships said no, same for any ECU (engine and box) updates. I have a feeling that it gets confused when going a wee uphill. Torque gets a spike and it doesn't know which gear to get into... again, never happens in manual, holds gear until anti-stall kicks in or red line.

Is yours one of the first CTHE October 2012 or so?

Best have Skoda UK CS just run that past the 'Special Technical Department' who can run it past the Factory Technical Department,

because i suspect there is both a Software Update available for the Engine,

& they need to ensure that your DQ200 got Mineral Oil in at the Factory.

You have the Warranty, and as it is VW are going to have to cover the DSG for Long Time Mister,

because World Wide is not going to get to Exclude Great Britain when they do 100,000 mile Waranties etc on Boxes they say are only going wrong in Humid and City stop startnEnvironments.,

have they not heard of Londons climate affected by Global Warming.?

& then asking Skoda UK HQ to Confirm in writing that yours needs no Updates is nice to have.

Saves any future backtracking attempts down the line.

OK, I will be calling SUK tomorrow after I fit new rotors and pads all around, brake fluid, oil and oil filter - a busy day tomorrow!
