Tailgate to roof seal

Featured Replies

So today while looking around my.new Mk3 I noticed something strange with the rubber seal along the top of the tailgate where it meets the roof when closed. There appears to be a gap towards the end of the seal along a good few inches or so of the rubber strip itself. It is the same at both sides. Is this normal? It looks wierd to me and I am sure the Mk2 was nothing like this. 38e742c190b5b8261772c49fab6f8df3.jpg

Same on mine and I believe its normal.

Mine too

Not the cause of the whistling/whining noise I think I can hear at certain speeds on certain road surfaces then.[emoji34]

No that'll be the wing mirrors

No that'll be the wing mirrors

Really?? I am pretty sure its not the cabin booming noise mentioned elsewhere so was wondering what else it could be? I was sure it sounded as though it was coming from the rear of the car too. lol.

Anything i can do to confirm this? IE fold the wing mirrors in slightly??

Pretty same at Rapid too. The rubber gets "disconnected" when closed to the edge.

Since the rest of the hatch is not sealed externally, I think that rubber is to protect hinges only. When raining should be fine, not sure when washing the car. :S

No that'll be the wing mirrors

Can't see the reason why no aftermarket, more aerodynamics, option is available.

Mine is the same, clearly a deliberate design.......for some reason
