I posted in Dec last year that my son's 1.9tdi had popped its power steering pump (it died when he hit full lock). 

2 1/2 months later it has happened again in similar circumstances - full lock pulling into a space in a carpark!

 

Any suggestions as to what might be killing it. Does the steering angle sensor have a range and needs to be centred or does it just produce pulses on rotation of the column?
