Santa Pod Prep.........

Featured Replies

In relation to the stickie for the Meet @ Santa Pod Saturday 16th May, just curious as to what or if any preparation are people attending doing? ie stripping out seats or just a quick wash and fill up fuel/oil and off.I know there's a few members on the list that have changed cars and circumstances [emoji106]

prep? castle coombe at the end of april, and "how fast" the weekend before santa pod ! ;)

Cool Box & get some Ice Packs frozen..

Liquids that have duty charged on & hops in,

H20

Sun Cream,

Shades,

Folding Chair that i will not fall through.

My car is getting strip I want the best time I can get In the vrs.

I might even mess with the airride on the line to move the weight or make it as low as possible...

I'm going to take my foot off the brake, and hit the gas :P

Not in 'D' , TC off, and handbrake on,  then off, no throttle or Foot Brake, floor it ?

in manual (for the ittle extra revs) and handbrake off foot brake on and try to react quick.....(TC off... my tyres (RSR's) mean I don't get wheelspin on the road or track... never been on the strip, so don't really know what the surface will be like!) I may also try changing up at 6k instead of 7 (worked well in my old CAVE BUT the new CTHE seems to keep pulling to 7k and not drop off) ...

edit: I will also have XDS turned off by then ;) its going to "off" for the first track of the season, the spring castle coombe performance car day , and I wont turn it back on again until winter ;)

Do you ever just go to Manual 1st,  and floor it and do not shift, force the box to. ?

Quicker than Shifting in Manual & 'S' or 'D'.

.........

Mr j,  do you have the rear weights off if you have a Hatch?

Santa Pod VID,

CAVE, TMC Tuning Box,  VRSPOWEREDS 211.6 bhp, see his Build Thread.

I always let it shift from 1st to 2nd, then manually change.....

it does odd things though when the XDS is off.... (this is why I like it like that on the track) if you are wheel spinning with the XDS on, it will try to control it and shift up..... with the XDS off, it doesn't shift up, if you are wheelspinning, it holds max revs (I have seen 7,800! :o) until you click to change up..... its really useful on the track, because it gives you MUCH better control, you can control it on the throttle like a manual, rather than getting a change up when you may not want it!

note: I dont know if the CAVE cars will do this, as I know the gearbox map is very different on the CTHE, and you cannot even choose "off" for the XDS on a cave car.... you can only set them to "weak" .... there is more adjustment in VCDS on the CTHE when it comes to XDS ... (including the "off")

I've left the rear weights on in fact there's more things in my boot to take out first lol ie spare gigaro alloy wheel, jack and torque wrench, 1 litre top up oil, football boots, pushchair, full Detailing Caddy the list goes on [emoji3]

he mullered the mini cooper then ;) ... my boot will be full of spare wheel, compressor, some bandages, some spark plugs, some cleaning stuff, and possibly some wine....

Wine!? Mine will be loaded up with beers lol

I am dozy so can not do timing lights because reaction is so slow.

But i have only one foot, so do not use the foot brake very often, i cant cover brake and throttle,

and for Standing starts /  Drags / 1/4 mile. traffic light Grand Prix there is an Issue.

Not having Hill Hold Control Operating, or slowing things.

Worth giving no foot brake on as a try for a Straight Liner with a DQ200 DSG.

Worth a practice or 3.

If the Brake & Software do not slow you fair enough.

On a Hill Climb start, Hand Brake on and off quick, no foot on brake, boot it works rather well. IME.

No idea who.

Crail Thrash this Sunday for anyone in Scotland looking for a run up the strip.

Looks like rain / weather might be a spoiler though weekend.

Going in the Fab at the moment although SWMBO would prefer to go in the M135i lol. I'd love to see how the M135i did on the strip but seeing as it's a Fabia meet I ought to go in that haha.

If Keith was going in his Golf R I'd probably take the M135i so we could do a Golf R vs M135i drag battle film for YouTube lol

Hmm see what you're saying mate.

How far away are you from Santa pod? Maybe take both? ;).

I dno whether to go down or not. Its a 3 hour drive for me, which id quite enjoy on the bike (not that i mind sitting in the car, can sit in it all day but the bike makes it a little more interesting) but then id be turning up on a bike to a car meet.

So not sure I'll bother haha

You'd be more than welcome! I've a feeling you would be good value for banter at the Saturday curry too lol :-)

Sadly taking both not an option as we live in Cornwall so the petrol cost would be abit daft lol
