Detailing advice/options

Featured Replies

Evening all

I've ordered a rallye green Octavia which I hope to have in the next month or so.

I was offered the lifeshine protection package at about £250 but after reading reviews on dealership offered protection have opted not to take it up.

I've therefore subsequently been looking at detailing alternatives and recently got a quote from a local detailer who quoted £500 for a machine polish, wash, wax, and then full interior and exterior gtechniq protection.

Now having spent all my money on options, £500 is probably a bit of a stretch but wanted to canvas others views. So questions:

1. What have others done/what do you recommend

2. Is it worth having some form of protection.

3. Is £500 excessive

4. Anyone recommend any berkshire based detailer a?

5. Anything else I've not thought of?

Cheers

Firstly, good choice at not choosing the dealer applied product!

IMO if you were to have the car untouched by the dealership and taken straight away to the detailer this would be the best option.

For a new car I doubt the car would have that many marks on the paint so a full decontamination and a pre wax cleanser would be sufficient. Depends what you want to protect it? coatings or wax/sealant?

£500 isn't excessive for a full detail but a new car detail shouldn't be that much! I know Matt @ Obsidian charges £295 for a new car detail inside and out with a single stage machine polish but he is far away from you in Manchester.

I don't know anyone local to you but Tim @ Envy Car Care is highly recommended and only an hour or so from you.

Or Chris @ ChrisRsDetailing...Probably a bit far for you though

I can only mirror what Ben says..Dont get the Dealer applied stuff..its a rip off

Get it done properly

Tim from Envy might come out to you , he did me and I'm in Newbury

500 sounds a lot in my experience, but I'm not sure what the cost of the protection materials used is in that case. The stuff I use does not break the bank, so probably judging from wrong standpoint.

I am recently sealed the paint on a brand new octy 3. Was only about 90 minutes work.

£500?

Far too much

I offer a new car protection detail

But typically 4 hours work and massively cheaper

All depends what work is being carried out.

If you were going for Crystal Serum for example or a wet sand then £500 isn't that bad of a price on an Octavia.

I couldnt wet sand a new car.

I don't possess that set of Detailing skills..Yet

I wet sanded a £2k respray, was very stressful but that was my own car , wouldn't do a customers unless it was a scratch repair etc

Yep,me neither...that kind of surgical operation requires a set of cast iron cahones,a steady hand, and nerves of steel. :x

Ive done wet sanding on Headlights and the odd stone chip..but on a new car?  Er..No thanks
