Gear change

Featured Replies

Anyone else found when changing  gear its  not very smooth.

I have the Octavia Hatch Elegance 1.4 TSI 140 Bhp PS 6G  MAN,  new from Manufacturers,  Its realy  Ping me off having to take care when changing gear, it feels cluncky  putting it into gear,  also when putting it in revers the gears crunch.

I feel like returning the the car and changing it for the DSG model.

I have the car on 4 year contract  where you can either keep the car, return it or exchange for new modle on another contract.   was going to change it after 12 months but dont know if i can put up with the gears for that long.

Anyone change there car on the contract deal if so how did it work for you.

Surely it should be covered by the warranty, take it back to the dealer and complain.

Sounds like an 'issue' - I would take it in for the dealer to have a look.

No way it should crunch going into reverse, unless you are still moving forward.

When new it can quite Notchy especially 1st to 2nd but it does improve considerably over time.

In fact it is noted as being one of the better gearboxes.

You might be experiencing some problems with the clutch? Definitely return to dealer job ASAP .

Mine was a bit clunky when brand new but it became better quickly, and now I don't notice anything wrong.

Where you driving skodas prior to the new one? Go back to the dealer and compare against another (demo).

It may be a case of more miles on the odo and it will improve. I have a diesel with a Dsg very low miles at moment and very very poor mpg. I have to give the benefit of the doubt and hope more miles will improve things.

A lot of cars will crunch gears into reverse whilst the car still has momentum.

It might take up to 50,000 miles before the claimed MPG is reached.

:D

I find the gear box on my car very positive.

No cars have synchronous mesh for reverse gear so if it doesn't want to slide in easily you'll have to double clutch, but it should slide in first time often. I wonder if the clutch is not quite fully disengaged, either it needs adjusting our perhaps you aren't quite pushing it far enough, does the bite point feel very low?

Either way, nip back to the dealer for a check and you'll feel happier hopefully.

It might take up to 50,000 miles before the claimed MPG is reached.

Oh bugger!! I doubt I will keep it that long :-(

Gearchange on my 2.0 TDI 150 is really nice, just a little graunchy on 1st to 2nd gear changes and particularly so when the car is cold.

Is by some margin the best manual box Ive had in a VAG group car though and Ive had a few.
