Question for twindoor owners with roofbox

Featured Replies

I'm going to be using our roofbox for the first time on the Superb in a couple of months and wanted a bit of advice. Previously the roof box and bars were used on our V70 which had roof rails. Obviously the Twindoor uses the different design feet and fitting kit to clamp onto the bodywork using the mounting points inside the upper edge of the door frames.

My question is.... Is there any danger to the bodywork if everything is left in place for a week or two? I just have visions of leaving the roofbox on for a couple of weeks and then the paintwork being marked where the fitting kit has been on the bodywork. I know the fitting kit has rubber pads that go between the bodywork and the pieces of the fitting kit But wasn't sure if damage could still be done. On the V70 leaving the feet clamped onto the roof rails obviously didn't mean an issue with paintwork etc.....

So am I ok to leave it all in place while we are on holiday or should I remove it all once we are there and fit it all again before heading back home?

Never had an issue with mine. Left both roof box and bike racks on with no problems. I usually take them off now because of height restrictions in some carparks. But with regard to paint damage, once they're tight...no problems.

Cheers for that..... I figured it was just me thinking the worst. :)

I agree with Kilkenny, I'd just add that in my experience the key to avoiding paintwork damage is to make sure that both the contact points on the car and the roof bars are clean before fitting and that the roof bars are adjusted to fit correctly.

I've not fitted roof bars to my Superb (yet, because I've only had the car a couple of months) but have always cleaned contact areas before fitting with previous cars (none of which had fitted rails) and haven't had any problems with paintwork damage.

Don't need to go mad cleaning, just a wipe over with a wet microfiber cloth is enough if the car's already fairly clean to start with.
