What cooler running spark plugs can i use in my octy vrs?

Featured Replies

Yeah that's my way forward now, changed oil yesterday and it had a bigger service in August. Changed discs and pads this week too. Thing is with a panel filter and some basic skills there's not a lot a garage can offer by way of service for me now (other than cambelt). It's nice to do these things yourself, don't think I'll sell the car so stamps are pointless, I write in the book myself to keep track and still keep receipts - when I remember.

  • I think lazer iridiums would be a good bet, upgrading to the 2.0 tfsi coil packs with spacer adapters would also be a good idea for a cooler spark.

  • Pretty much the same here. At least then you know its done too

  • Coppers been bang on for me

Just ordered some bkr7e, see what the craic is. Worth a try see if there's a difference for under a tenner.

let us know if you feel any difference.. for cooler plugs what material plugs are best.. platinum iridium.. ?

I thought it was either of the above as they're built for longevity, but in the link posted by barge it says there is sometimes an issue with them not dispersing heat quickly enough. The copper core ones (bkr7e) are recommended for a map on the basis of them being a better conductor and managing heat more effectively. So whilst platinum or iridium may be cooler, that may not necessarily make them more effective for a mapped car. The copper ones last around half the mileage, but then they're a 1/3 of the price and may actually run better. Confused? Me too, so I thought I'd give them a try for a tenner.

Never made paid much attention to fuel comsumption tbh but overall driving was better. Whether that was down to the copper or the smaller plug gap im not sure tho

Do you run them at 0.7? Did you say that's their pregap?

Mine have just arrived gapped at 0.8, I hate gapping plugs I'm too ham fisted. Will be fitting them after I've sorted another running issue for a more fair comparison.

im starting to think i might as well just give them a try for the sake of a tenner..

My sentiments exactly, I think for stage 2 the coils would also be a significant factor for effective heat management. So for you those plugs for a tenner frees up a bit more dollar for genuine 2.0t coils.

Mine came gapped at 0.7 so i just put them in. When i bought mine 12 months ago they were only £8 but that seller has increased the price

Ah ok, paid about £9 for mine, like I say they need gapping as they're 0.8...eeeewwww

Not as yet, I want to sort out my losing boost at top end issue first so I know where I'm at with it. I'm hoping it may be as simple as a little split I've seen developing in a section of hose. I also have an actuator to try. Anyway that's another story!

I fitted these BKR7Es probably 3-4 years back, havent touched them.  Not sure why you are replacing so soon but thats upto you :)

I replace plugs and filters every 12months, just a habit :)

anyone used these side spark s4 ones? F5DPOR pricey i know

What did you think of them? How do they perform

No issues.

Every 12 months is a bit of a waste but each to their own.  You arent gaining performance in any way.

I might go with the coppers too but mine is running really well right now and I've not long serviced it. Its not a lot of money I'll await your verdict YellowCar!
