Upgrade Bolero Head Unit options

Featured Replies

Hi, just took ownership of my first mk3 VRS (hatchback) last week and am a very happy camper. The one i got ( second hand with low mileage ) has a few extras on it such as the phone box, park assist etc, but just the standard Bolero head unit. This Bolero unit doesn't have a cd slot in it, but does have the extra unit in the glovebox which can take a cd and an SD card. There is also the usb / aux ports just below the head unit.

I have looked online and there seem to be a number of columbus head units available and i was wondering how "plug and play" these would be. Would it connect into the unit in the glovebox without any problems and also the usb/aux ports (can't see why not). A lot of the ones i've seen seem to also have a dvd slot and sd slot in the actual unit, so would this double up my capacity?

If i get the columbus unit would the usb then connect correctly to an iphone ( at the minute doing this does nothing but charge my phone) and allow me to use the music etc through it without changing the usb connection to the media interface?

Would all the extras work such as parking sensors, climate control display etc? thanks for any help.

It's been looked into it before and the consensus is if you want a columbus you need to buy a car with it fitted.

Don't know if it helps, but I talked with my dealer late March about whether we should wait for the MY16 for the possibility of having the SmartLink feature. He informed me that they would have a third party replacement for the head unit that would give me the MirrorLink feature in Q4/2015 - but he would not specify which brand...

Did you ever find out more info on this 3rd party head unit?
