Sounds to good to be true .... Scam ?

Featured Replies

Sounds like the cars are previous write offs and then repaired?

As you say. Grammar is appalling. Ridiculously under priced. I would personally avoid it.

"All My cars bought for cash from insurance company"

so must be stolen/recovered or damaged.

Andy

There are many cars that are genuine bargains, the reason being there was lots of flooding in the UK,

and new & nearly new cars on forecourts and in storage were damaged and required rebuilds and refurbished.

as to Grammar, not all advertisers are British or have English as their first language.

Higher English is not a requirement of trading in vehicles.

Anyway, Buyer Beware, & he who hesitates is lost, or last.

Both front and rear number plates are from same garage ususally afer damage they stick different plate on which ever end has been hit if in accident and all the slam lines look ok?

Its an Essex plate so not an out of area car, all looks ok. Worth a quick call to the Skoda London bunch, Preston motors to get some history.

His feedback is a bit strange, never sold a car before from taking a quick look, seems to sell cigarette types things or have I misread his feed back?

:D  :D My Grammar(er) is awful

It does seem odd i agree with his feedback, its the way in which he talks about the car and how he trades that seems odd, looking at cars on ebay and autotrader i can only find 2010 cars without DSG and with more miles that even come close to £7k.

You'd have thought that any body legit would have an English speaker proof read adverts, a vast majority of buyers will be put off by the dodgy advert. The car might be totally kosher or it might be a lemon.. I wouldn't buy it personally.

?

Are you going to communicate then and see if it is a Scam, a Deposit taker, or someone that earns money from incoming calls.?

The cars are on the DVLA Databnase as correct year of Registration, and First Registered

, they show as Insured on ASKMID.

"I have buyers from all UK land "

"my Wife used sometimes for shopping" But you just bought it from an insurance company, right?

"Metal RED Metallic Metallic" No such paint.

"Limited Slip Differential" Really?

"Premium Sound System" Come on, it has a Swing radio, I just took my Swing out.

I'd stay away personally.

Anyone got a free car check to see what category writeoff its listed as?

Bad grammar is often deliberately used to fool idiots as they think they're smarter than the seller so go in unaware.

Edit: Its a Cat D

its no different to the dealers, yes sir we knew the previous owner, one careful driver bull that you get. id say the only real way to know is to go try it, sales patter will always be sales patter whatever language they use

So, anyone want to send him a question asking if its been involved in an accident or otherwise written off and see how honest he is?

If you are interested in buying ask the seller, no point guessing.  if he earns from incoming calls, then you are giving money.

There is a lower mileage one that is a better bargain if genuine.

It says bought from the Insurance Company.

Who is going to buy at Auction or has the contracts to sell the cars that were on the Transporter that grounded that are repairable.?

Sorry but I can't read the guys discription in anything other than 'Alexander the meerkat's voice

On a more serious note if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is

Well if you look at sellers other items on eBay he has 5 cars listed and four of the five were photographed with the same back ground, not that this is any indication for an authentic seller but does have continuity.

2013 Suzuki Swift SZ3 - 5000 miles only 63 reg !!! £5,300
2014 Ford B MAX 1.6 AUTO Euro5 Zetec Petrol 2800 miles only Perfect condition £8,399
2013 Skoda Fabia 1.2 12v SE 5Door Hatchback Manual Petrol LOW MILES £5,495
2014 Skoda Fabia DSG petrol AUTOMATIC - 150 MILES ONLY !!! 64 REG - PERFECT CAR £7,999
2014 Skoda Fabia DSG petrol AUTOMATIC - 1400 miles only !!! ELEGANCE - Extras !! £6,999

I don't see why you wouldn't at least email through your eBay account and see if and how the seller responds but normally when things are too good to be true they are and I don't know of any seller/dealer that would knowingly give away £1000 +/- on the price of a car.

That's my twopence

It sounds a bit too good to be true but wouldn't it still be under the three year warranty?

It sounds a bit too good to be true but wouldn't it still be under the three year warranty?

Does it still apply if its an insurance write-off as this one is?

Does it still apply if its an insurance write-off as this one is?

Probably not. I would definately keep well away from this car.

So has anyone asked the seller questions,

& was it an 'Insurance Write-off' or as some an 'Insurance Company sold on', like many thousands are from cars that Insurance Companies end up owning and need repaired and then put back 'In Trade' or to auction.

If nobody wants the cars, or wants the risk, then where is your interest in them.

I used a free checker and it is a Cat D. I didn't check the seller's other cars, but I expect them to be the same as they all appear similar. So its more than likely legit, just the standard of repair is open to question. And whether they're honest enough to say its a write-off if questioned, which he has to by law.

The term 'Write Off' is misleading.

It an an Insurance form of Class of Damage. Class D.

Very Common, with Water Damage, Flood or Driven Through, sometimes that requires a New Engine, all new interior etc.

So you ask, you ask to see the Invoices & Receipts for the New or Salvage parts, because at some point VOSA / DVLA might

to be sure they are legit repairs.

'Written Off' if that is how you want to describe them,

or sometimes.  Repaired / Refurbished for less expense than Main Dealers or Insurance Approved Body Repair / Furbisher were quoting.

I have not called or contacted him, to be honest its just too dodgy looking for me, and now its an insurance job its right off the list.

That ebay seller never sold anything of any high value, some car parts previously.

Might be a bought or stolen account, you never know.

If all genuine and cars are there to be viewed then I am certain they are all damaged cars after repairs.

Plenty of them on the market but the are ALWAYS advertised as such and if a seller is not a crook then you should be able to see the full photographic documentation of the damage and repairs backed up with parts receipts.

Problem is less than perfect ebay sellers (why not on autotrader?) tend to repair cars like that using parts from more damaged cars, a bit of a Frankenstein creation in the end...

Stay away if possible.
