Grill surround - anyone replaced one yet?

Featured Replies

I've got an Octy Scout on order for the wife (and quite excited by it too!). Anyway, I have never been a fan of the chrome grill surround and want to change it for the black one off the vRS. Anyone done this yet? Is it easy to do? On the mk2 the hardest bit was separating it from the grill. On my first vRS (pre fl) I had the part sprayed (seem to remember being one of the first on here to de-chrome way back when!) and on my third vRS (fl) I had it wrapped. Good to see the vRS gets a black surround as standard now, shows Skoda listen to their customers, shame it's not an option on the rest of the range.

Even on the vRS it's an option.  But yes loads of people have swapped it.

I had my dealer swap it before they handed it over. Cost me 75€.

Did I read somewhere that the front bumper has to come off to swap the grille or have I made that up?

You can use PlastiDip also.

I have it on my VRS since 3 months, and it´s like the first day  :p

Not a huge fan of plastidip. Used it with varying results.

I assume the grill and the surround come off the bonnet and they detach into two pieces?

No as the grille is in the bumper and welded to it. The surround can be removed by taking the bumper off and unclipping it from behind or leave the bumper on and carefully break it off if you don't want to keep it.

Seriously you have to take the bumper off? The idea of breaking it off doesn't appeal to me. Anyone done a how to yet with pics?

Yes, XPower did one to show how to remove bumper to replace indicators, I think

Plastidip is seeming more appealing all of a sudden

I just broke mine off to remove, done in 5 minutes!

Takes about an hour and a half to do it properly and save the original grill and not damage anything. Wasn't hard just a bit time consuming for a grill swap

Does the new one just clip in then?

New one just clips in after removing the chrome one.
