103tsi torsion beam vs 132tsi multilink

Featured Replies

How is everyone finding the torsion beam suspension?

Is it worth going up to the 132tsi just for the multilink rear suspension setup?

Yes.

The torsion beam is ok once your fitted softer VW shocks and a bigger RARB and it still lighter then the multi-link but, the 132tsi engine is very nice and very tunable.

Depends on what you expect from it. The independent rear is more comfortable, but for me it wasn't worth paying an extra 30% and being stuck with the DSG.

The torsion beam is lighter, quieter, cheaper (allowing more options), and apparently swapping for Golf shocks helps to improve the ride.

If you do a lot of city driving then torsion beam is very uncomfortable. It is bouncy and unsettled on city speeds. Much better on highways. My car is on 18" wheels.

Multilink every time is first choice if you like to drive a car..................

On twisty roads it really helps & you can almost feel it steering the car around the corners due to the huge amount of toe in that the rear tyres have...............go for it!

Remember it's a big car which can hold 5 people & luggage, the multilink will perform better with full loads as well..........

There is no question. The 1.8 > 1.4 and the multilink > torsion beam - if you can afford it.

And paying for O3 Elegance money I suggest you do.

The 1.8 is only available in the L and K here in the UK or nearly £30K, my Elegance came in at a good night out over £20K hence, the 2.0TSI vRS at £25K is way better value for anyone requiring the multi-linkrear suspension.

Ah yes, in the case of UK specs what you say seems reasonable.

The OP is from Australia though, so it may differ.

Just to clarify, i am comparing.

1) Octavia Sedan Elegance 1.4 TSI 7 DSG, Race Blue, Tech Pack, 18" Alaris. (Torsion)

2) Octavia Sedan Elegance 1.8 TSI 7 DSG, Race Blue, Tech Pack, 18" Alaris. (Multilink)

Difference of $2,300 AUD.

other differences do exist though so its not just £1200 difference for the rear suspension. I'd be tempted to pay it for the more advanced setup, bigger engine and the bigger brakes and I also think it would be nice if Skoda UK gave its customers this extended engine/trim choice!

Based on your options I would definitely go the 1.8.

Better engine and fuel injection system (I believe the same as the RS with port AND direct injection), rear suspension and brakes.

Better engineering at that reasonable price difference seems a no brainer.

Go on take them both for a test drive, you know you want to. You know you have to.

Yes the comparison is really a no brainer. What is a Tech Pack though?

Yes the comparison is really a no brainer. What is a Tech Pack though?

- Adaptive Cruise Control

- Automatic Parking Assistant and acoustic front and rear parking sensors

- Advanced keyless entry including smart start (KESSY)

- Premium German sound system 'Canton' (10 loudspeakers, digital equalizer)

- Driving Mode Selection

- Bi-Xenon headlights with function (AFS) - Adaptive Frontlight System including integrated headlight washers, LED daytime running lights

- Light Assist (coming home, leaving home, tunnel light, day light), rain sensor, Inside rear view mirror with humidity sensor

- Front fog lights with cornering function, black frosted glass design

- Rear LED lights

($3300 AUD option, thats from the Skoda Australia website)

For $2300, as long as you can easily afford the difference, it is probably worth it.

Petrol or diesel?

Petrol. Built 03 OCT 14 and complied Dec 14. Dealer couldnt confirm if it had reverse camera. But said no it doesnt to avoid disappointment. I really wanted it but oh wells. May have to go aftermarket if it doesnt.

Our car was built Nov 14 and didn't have the camera. But tech pack cars may have got it earlier.

Rear parking sensors and the visibility of the car are good enough. The O3 is no VW CC or Merc CLS.

Vehicles with +150hp/110kw will have 312mm front brakes v 288mm on cars 150hp<.....so 1.8TSI and non vRS 2.0 TDI 184's. All vRS get 345mm fronts.

Rear brakes same across all versions I believe.
