The fabia horn

Featured Replies

So had my car 3 days now, not used the horn until today, tooted at a oldish bloke jumping the lights coming at me. Too say I was embarrassed was an understatement pretty sure the old guy had a smirk on his face after hearing it. Will be refraining from using in the future it I think unless absolutely necessary.

I used mine for the first time today too. An old bloke pulled out on to a roundabout in front of me which is sadly par for the course where I live. Let's just say the horn in my old Citigo was definitely more strident!

That's Leicester for you Prog[emoji4] so I've got to swap the horn over from my Citigo or just not use it [emoji20].

Fit the following:

To be fair, the Citigo doesn't have as much sound proofing as the Fabia so it may just be that the horn sounds quieter from inside the vehicle.

At the risk of sounding like Finbarr Saunders, I'll have to get someone else to honk my horn while I check out the extent it goes off at outside.

It is pathetic.

I'm always testing horns in hire cars etc, The fabia was sort of a Noddy horn, got a Yeti and was more Manly :D Just find a written off Yeti, and nab the horn from that.

Still the silly "meeep" as in the old mk2? :D

I completed that with a couple of Fiamms. Italian and build to be heard...

the Mk1 was pretty good, as it was twin horn.. I think this Mk3 has a single one.. probably why it doesn't sound as menacing..

I presume its an easy job to fit a different tone horn. As long as it matches voltage of the current one?

If I could complain and say it doesn't sound right without Skoda already knowing how weak it sounds to get a better horn I would!

Apiece of cake, actually. The voltage is hardly a a problem unless you go for a trucker horn or a vintage dito, all horns for cars and motorcycles are 12 V.

If you want something loud I can recommend the Stebel Nautilus or the Fiamm Freeway blaster. Needs a separate 20 A fuse and a relay and some very basic electrical skills.

Easy, use the original horn cable for the relay coil. New heavier gauge cable from battery through fuse to horns to frame.

Done.

I can't believe Skoda haven't change the horn. Mk1 was fine but in my Mk2 it's rubbish !! Makes you think what else they have saved money on !!

Does it matter what it sounds like so long as it can be heard when needed!

Does it matter what it sounds like so long as it can be heard when needed!

Which is exactly the problem. It cant. :D

I've always heard mine on the odd occasion I've used it, never thought about about the horn on any car I've had come to think of it.

I can understand wanting a meaty horn on an HGV or emergency vehicle but a supermini, not really but each to their own I suppose.

Re the OP.

The old bloke must have heard it then, so job done.

The Highway code does have it as only to be used when necessary anyway.

Why use it when it is not.

I test them before a MOT, and that is about it.

The highway code has it to be used to let other know of your presence and that's where the fabia horn fails just doesn't sound loud enough in a busy city traffic. Then again I have cat 4 hearing loss :(

Fabia Mk2's have been Skodas biggest selling model in the UK,

and they will be expecting the latest to be as well.

Strange that through 8 years of production they stuck with horns that make the noise that they do,

if it is not fit for purpose. Then they fit much the same on the new model.

?

Have you gone away from the car and had someone sound the horn to see just how it does sound?

Can anyone tell me where the horn is situated on the mk 2 Fabia?

Behind the bumper? Easy to get to?

Thanks.

Just holler out the window you stupid f***i&g  tw*t..

You simply gotta vent off your frustration, or you'll explode..LOL

Hi

Here is a video showing how to change the horn:

BTW here in Denmark two-tone horn is specified in the standard equipment list.

Perhaps the type of horn is country-specific.

Remember that the Fabia I had a rather loud two-tone sound, while my current Fabia II has the soft one-tone 'duuut'.

Thanks Torslunde.
