Trunk button - plug'n'play in a O2 FL 2011?

Featured Replies

Would have thought that would be a nightmare to get working as there's no wiring inside to do it in the first place and the boot lock is a fairly sealed unit. Could be wrong though.

Other inputs? :p

I can't remember but doesn't holding the locking button on the centre console do this? If so could you tap into that wiring (nice way to fill in a button blank if possible?).

Where is the button used presently? Is it an option on the FL?

Couple of pointers here

No the center button is for unlocking and locking the doors while inside the car

To fit that switch you would need to run a wire all the way from the centre console to the drivers door controller, then it needs to be coded (add 1 to the existing coding)

Then unless you have the auto boot mod what would it give you, a boot that is unlocked that needs to be lifted

Also if you have the auto boot mod would you want to accidently open the boot at 70mph

Would this override the safety prevention built in to the boot switch? At 5mph, the handle won't work, but I don't know if this would do the same precautionary function or not.

Agreed, it sounds like a right pain to install when you think you could just press the handle if you were at the back anyway.

it is a security feature from the outside, this would be controlled from inside.

don't know, i know someone who has this on there mk6 golf, i will ask him to test it

Is it a retro fit on that golf or factory? If it's factory, there's no way it would do it at speed, you can be sure VW wouldn't let that happen, but the danger if this was retrofitted and it DID accidentally circumvent that safety feature is that it only needs one bit of missed coding for it to be potentially dangerous.

Besides which, how easy would it be to nick stuff from your boot if all they had to do was smash a window, lean in, flick the button and they're in?!

it was retrofitted

there is also a difference that this would only work with the ignition on, like electric windows

oh, if someone smashed a window to press the button they are already in your car

Yeah, obviously, but getting large stuff like tools out of the boot can be difficult if you tried taking it over the dropped back seat, through the cabin, and out a side door.

Would this work on a pre-fl?

It would be good to fill that last blank button at least :)

yes

Are there any guides to fitting this?

I've never seen this an an option before on a mk2.

The part number on the listing comes up as Tpms retrofit. The cable appears to be the same as their tpms retrofit too, do I doubt it's plug and play.

it won't be plug and play if you want to do it properly

there is a difference between doing it cheaply and doing it properly

you would need to run it through the coupling point and behind the window regulator runner then it would need to go into the 32 pin plug

ten tap into ground and illumination from the ESP / ASR button

Hmmn this could be an option for me. Why are two of the wires are in a plug of some kind? Isn't it three wires to the ESP switch (two to get the illumination and the other to provide a ground), plus the fourth as a signal wire to the door controller?

Adam

I found a wiring diagram for the controller somewhere when looking at mirror dimming, will try and dig it out later.

This would be really good if it works.

No doubt I would only use this once to test it, but I hate blank buttons, especially when nothing else can be specced as standard to fill it.

And me...

Would be nice, but this is their display model and if you look carefully at it it looks like the front of the blank has been cut out by a five year old. With a penknife! :peek:

And the usb inside looks rusty or something weird. Strange way to show it off.

Uk listed one, slightly cheaper, same duff pictures. :(

Fair one, I didn't look too carefully to be honest.

It's just the tiny things I notice more than something others miss.

I'll get me coat. :)
