park assist upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi all

Been searching forums etc and googles various vw sites and wondered the following

If you have the first generation park assist can you upgrade to newer versions i.e. Version 1.5 which is available in later skoda's

I understand there are 3 versions of the pa;

> 1.0 - Which I have which allows reverse parallel parking with the 6 front sensor and 4 rear sensor set up

> 1.5 - this was made available in later skoda's and added get you out of the space plus bay parking, again having the 6 front sensor and 4 rear sensor set up ( so the same as my current car)

> 2.0 - this is the version where you 6 sensors at the front and rear but not sure what extra functionality is available?

The above could be wrong so free feel to correct my assumptions

Based on my googling I believe you can update the park assist module to the later version that has the same set up as my current car. So 6 sensors a the front and 4 at the rear. The sites I have looked implied that it is a straight swap if you can get the pa module and maybe some vcds tweaking

I have a 2010 model and a big fan of it and like the challenge of upgrading it

I have contacted oem retrofits to ask the question but they are not great at replying tbh, rather hoping the god that is eddienl reads this and advises us... But I also know there are equally knowledagble people out there

Thanks in advance

Not sure what version 2.0 refers to? You are referring to a Superb here, right? AFAIK there are only two versions, the one available on the pre FL with parallel and on the FL which added bay parking. Maybe I'm missing something......

Sounds like you have the most current version, or 1.5 as you mention here ?

Cool

Cheers

Thought my understanding was not correct tbh

So I have a 2010 Superb Elegance with PLA 1.5 without the bay parking, which is what I thought would be cool to add to the car.

I think I have enough sensors to do this as the PLA 2.0 seems to require the same set up (6 at the front and 4 at the back) but further searches seem to imply that you need a new update ABS pump to support the new PLA 2.0 module

I beginning to think this is going to get complicated TBH but will see what people come up with

I thought all the cars with bay parking had sensors near the rear wheel arches as well. If they have to be added then it's a lot of work for very little benefit.

To be honest its one of the extras my car has but after trying it out,i now don't trust it.

It will perpendicular park your car in to a very tight space, the cars in between your chosen parking space must me parked correctly ie very straight if one is parked with  a slight angle the park assist will park also at an angle and intervention is required, remember the superb is a long car.

The perpendicular park assist on my car gets very close to other parked cars mirrors and I have had to intervene to stop the mirrors touching.

As it will get into a very tight space, opening of the front doors can be  difficult (preventing door/body dents) even with he seats in further most rear position.the superb has big front doors.

The other park assist options parallel park and assist out of parallel park are excellent, makes life easy parking in London.

Superb, best car I have owned.

You also get 360° OPS and beeps if that interests you...

I didnt have parking sensors on the Mondeo, did have em on the Chevrolet and miss them now, i need a camera or sensor or something.....

Wouldn't be without the F&R sensors now as you can be so much accurate when moving around other cars.
