Oil Temp Gauge != Maxidot

Featured Replies

Noticed this whilst "experiencing" the car on the m6 toll. Maxidot read 107 deg cel but the gauge stuck on 90?! Also happened when i spent a mile in second at 30mph to get the regen to finish . . . . (didn't want to interrupt so did another lap of the estate). Anyone else noticed this? Will bring it up with the dealer if other issues appear.

The oil temp can show different to the water temp dial. Nothing to be alarmed about

If I understand what you are saying, the gauge is for *water* temperature whereas the maxidot is *oil* temperature. They will be different.

Correct. Water is the analogue gauge and Oil is shown within Maxidot.

Another similar thread did say that the water gauge was 'fixed' to read 90 degrees even though in reality the water temperature varies almost as much as the oil temperature reading. The water display will only vary when the water temperature exceeds an accepted range (acceptable range not stated).

Apparently this is common practice among manufacturers to avoid alarming your average non-mechanical punter, you can imagine the number of unnecessary phone calls the service depts would get otherwise.

One of our continental members recently posted fuel consumption in his 1.4tsi at 200+ kph was 20 litres/100 (about what you would expect for this engine). It would have been interesting to know the oil temperature at that point because the readings seem to get quite high in this car even when not pressing on.
