What is considered lugging in too high a gear? I try to keep the RPMs around 1500 all around town and have the gear higher quicker to get good mpg. Is driving in 4/5th at 1500 around town bad for the engine?

First post, first Skoda, loving it.

1500 to 2000 rpm should be fine as long as you're not accelerating hard from low down, just don't let it labour on the hills otherwise you risk the premature demise of your DMF.

As above.

Those revs are fine as long as you're not trying to accelerate. Gentle acceleration (just tickling the throttle) is fine but don't try and floor it or you put a lot of strain on the DMF and clutch.

Just remember though that a higher gear is not always the most economical.

Sometimes it is better to let the car rev a bit using the turbo to get up to speed quicker then cruise in a higher gear.

Also if you do a lot of driving like this make sure you give it a good thrashing from time to time or you will likely encounter issues with things clogging up!

right tickle the throttle, dont chug going up hills, dont floor it from under 2000, and every once in a while get on the motorway and get the revs up and get the turbo going?

Thanks for the tips. Loving the car so far. Even thinking of getting the new badges.

All spot on!

I recently got the new badges. I wasn't sure at first but as soon as I fitted them I loved them.

OH No now you've said that its enabling me to become a skoda geek and get them as well. Where did you get them? Easy job? Front, Back, Wheels, and steering?

I also agree with all the Above, Running around at 1500rpm is fine, just don't try and climb hills like this, these engines produce there max torque at approx 1900rpm so if you are looking for some pull, select the right gear to match this.

And as Phil Said, Don't be shy with the loud pedal to much, give it a good blast from time to time ( Once up to temp of Course )

And if for instance I was driving around at 1200/1300 this might cause issues with the Engine and the DMF?

Not necessarily, if you are going downhill or on perfect flat and just tickling the throttle then those rpm should not cause undue damage.
