Future Top Gear presenters being considered?

Featured Replies

Programme needs fresh faces, not a bunch of poser's, in particularly, about the cars every-day people can afford, and not the few elite such as these over-paid commentators..

Posing as drivers in fast cars is not entertaining, what about the mechanics of the vehicle hands-on ie: get it up on a ramp, lets have a thorough good look/ under the bonnet, look in the boot for space available, etc, etc, etc.

If the BBC did that they would lose 90% of the worldwide audience and the reputed £50 million it brings in to them every year.

  • This is a report in the Telegraph relating to a story from the Sunday Express, based on someone overhearing a conversation between Andy Wilman and Jay Kay. In other words it's a slow news day.

  • Snore.....   I've tried watching that Classic Car Show - the delivery is a cure for insomnia.

  • Penny Mallory please.    No idea about a TV presenter though.

we all know monkey boy will be in the frame, so long as /Drive let him

TBH that is exactly what I don't want, and what makes / made the old TG, and Fifth Gear so boring.

If I want to check out cars that "every day people" can afford I'll go down to the local dealers, pick up a few leaflets, blag a test drive, see what discount I can blag etc. etc.

I neither need nor want overpaid commentators doing that on the TV.

I've got very little chance of doing this for the Supercars which formed the core of TG's output.

For the last few years TG has not been a car orientated consumer programme (thank God), it has been a car orientated entertainment show.

There is plenty of room in the schedules for both, but lets continue to have the choice and not simply have a motoring programme devoted to more of the grey porridge that clutters up our roads already

As for the hands on mechanics, that's what Wheeler Dealers and Car SOS are there for. Let's face it, even the Halfords' adverts take the mickey out of the "how to change a light bulb scenarios.

Thank god a sensible post

Exactly if your a car enthusiast watch wheeler dealers etc.

Comedy show thats loosely based on cars as a general talking point thats what top gear is!

Fifth gear is a bore fest, penny malorey? Is someone smoking crack???

Figures are pointless, they can be made to prove anything..LOL

Tim Shaw. He's a car enthusiast. He's been forced to control him self over the last few years particularly on TV but isn't afraid of hatching controversial elaborate plans if his past Radio Career is anything to go by - for me, he could replace Clarkson almost like for like.

Part of me thinks TG should be allowed to die in it's current format. I don't want a boring consumer show neither. I hope Clarkson, May & Hammond get the backing of another network and free reign to develop another car based show.

Tim Shaw ? Please! the worst thing about Car SOS

Sounds melodramatic but IMO TG as it was is dead , they need someone to inject new enthusiasm and ideas into a programme which won't look a great deal like the old show , trying to get new presenters to carry the torch just won't work

That's what the BBC tried time and time again with old TG until Clarkson and Wilman brought it back

Very interesting read in this months topgear mag by andy wilman, history of topgear

Jezza no longer writes for the mag tho and hammond waffles about his bikes/horses

In the editorial tho it does say bbc is looking at a new topgear in 2016

Much as i hate johnny vaughn he would fill clarksons place (loudspoken, obnoxious etc)

Anybody but sue perkins!!

There are TV people out there that can Drive & could present like Kevin Fletcher (Emmerdale),

Ex Boy Band Stars that Race,

& Ex F1 Drivers that might have been Born in Scotland, or a relation of his from IndyCar Dario Franchiti.

Plenty of Quality & Talented Drivers that can maybe work along with Presenter / Comedians.

Hope you're on about McNish and not Coulthard. I'd have trouble staying awake with DC, yawn.

Di Resta actually.

So Jeremy Clarkson seems to have had time to consider his position,

tell his tale now, and seems to expect sympathy or something.

So i hope he is well now,

and can get on with his life in good health.

It might just be the case that after all the Support from Fans, Friends and Followers, nobody really wants to employ him,

or really cares about him doing Car Programmes for them, he has shown that he is a jumped up muppet full of his own importance.

New top gear presenters? As we've had Bungle, Zippy and Jeffrey, how about giving Rod, Jane and Freddie a go?

I rather like the idea or wee Dario or wee Paul.

I know it's been ruled out but I thought Sue Perkins was one of the better PC suggestions.

I think the old format has to go. There is no point in parachuting new presenters into the Clarkson et al's shoes. I don't think the old consumer TG is an option either.

What I am sure of is that if they do resurrect the show it will be considered **** for the first series and possibly more until it finds it's own feet away from Clarkson.

Meanwhile Clarkson will be starting up TG 2.0 on another channel probably with the other two.

Due to the unique way the BBC is funded, surely TG presenters in future will have to be made up of 75% woman, 42% ethnic minority and 54% underprivileged upbringing in order to truly represent modern day Britain (as seen by the BBC)?

Thats why Sue Perkins was such a good call a gay woman ! ticks two boxes straight away , maybe Sandi Toksvig would be a better call gay, female and an immigrant ! :)

I'd say its unlikely Hammond will return now either.

I think they'll go as a package to whatever prog Clonkson startsup

How did Sue Perkins get in the running??!!

Have to say,I think Jodie Kidd is great (on many fronts!) but not the right person

Sue Perkins? Maybe someone thought she knew about diesel engines?

Did you watch her tonight on the Classic Car Show, ? she is becoming more effected week by week.

its just hard to watch how bad she is as a presenter.

Might be best if they start from scratch and bring in some outsiders from motoring print journalism.

If they just bring in 'personalities' to replace the 3 amigos it'll be a shambles. However I think that's probably what they'll do.

I'm sure Chris Evans could do a good motoring show but I think he's clever enough to know it should never be Top Gear.

There will be plenty of other creepers and desperadoes that would sell their kids to get a slot on TG even if it were to be a 6ep farce with 'New Stigette', 'Star in an expensive car' etc
