vRS Handling

Ball joints just bolt on like OE, only difference is that they have elongated mounting holes so you can adjust in-out to get to the camber setting you want.  Mine were supplied and fitted by Alex @ AKS Tuning.  Although i fitted mine when the s3 alloy arms went on there's no reason why you couldn't fit these with your oe steel arms

Ref the lower control arms - FWIW i bought mine new (cupra/s3 jobbies) and they came already fitted up with new non-voided console bushes in.  Cant' remember exactly but they weren't *that* expensive..

Yes, TT arms are different - fit these and you'll get min -2degrees negative camber and you'll need to be careful on wheel width/offset to avoid any rubbing on full lock if you are lowered.  It'll turn-in great though :)  The S3/cupra arms are geometrically the same as the oe vRS jobbies so are are better option IMO.  I had both..

It's S3 arms I have. So I'll get ball joints anyway as the plan is once I've put Bilsteins on (going B8's as for road use they should be fine without going full coilover) I'll get a full geometry done somewhere that knows what they are doing. Still debating what to do with the ARB. It's actually quite hard to buy just one rear. All seem to come as a pair.

Are s3 console housings the same as std vrs apart from the bush obviously which has less splits and holes? If so I currently have a pair of Passat b6 wishbones and a pair of TT solid bushes which could be pressed into my std vrs console housings and used with the Passat wishbones and bobs yer uncle? Or am I wrong? Now confused lol.

I am confused too. What would be really useful would be a list of valid combinations of console housing/LCA/balljoint/hub.

LCAs are TT or S3/Cupra or vRS standard or Passat B6

Console housings are TT or Passat B6 or S3?

Hubs are vRS/GTI (steel), Passat B6, S3 or TT? (all alloy)

Balljoints seem to be common to all?

The consoles which came attached to my Passat alloy wishbones are not offset. ie not handed. I think TT are the same? However they have voided bushes. I thought the actual wishbone was compatible with all models though, hopefully using my std consoles I can fit them. From what I've read they don't offer much weight saving wise over std pressed steel but look better and won't rust. If not then I will be just changing the console bushes and keeping my rusty LCAs

Yes, S3 consoles are the same as vRS.

Your plan of passat arms plus S3 bushes plus vRS housings will work

On my crap bathroom scales the cast LCAs are 4.6kg inc the console housing.

The S3 arms are 2.9kg

I can't find my notes but the pressed steel units are around 3.5kg-3.8kg?

Thanks for the heads up. Has all these various parts sitting in a pile for weeks now lol. When doing the fitting should I use all new bolts also?

I think the saving over the pressed arms is 1.8kg per side.  Not massive, but every little helps.  I wouldnt do just these on their own as the weight saving isn't much, but if you're also putting in new bushes, adjustable ball joints, other light stuff etc then it makes sense to do at the same time.
