leaky rear caliper advice please...

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Noticed a leak today on rear caliper of the missus' 05 vrs, seems to be weeping out from seal where handbrake linkage goes into caliper.

Assume that this will be new caliper on that side which I may try to do myself.

Anyone else seen this issue?

Is it best practice to change axle set of pads at same time or axle set of calipers??

Any top tips on best place to get the replacement parts???

Thanks very muchly

Andy.

You can get seal repair kits but not sure if they cover that rear seal for the handbrake leaver arm.

Euro car parts will do for parts or carpartsforless I think it is. No need to change both.

If changing pads, change both sides.

Cheers.

Wasn't sure if you really need to change pads at all when just replacing caliper, shouldn't need to in theory I guess, but in some cases if well worn could be worth doing whilst in there?

I don't know about vwspares, but ECP will take your old calliper in for some money back, you pay an excess initially and get it returned when you return an undamaged calliper.

÷1 on vw spares got two for my vrs about a year ago £54 each I paid

General traffic and the likes wanted £100+ each plus they wanted my old ones

Vw spares go for the unpainted ones they are exactly the same caliper just without green paint

Give them a flick over with what ever colour you want

Also you don't have to send your old ones back and it's still half the price
