Dashcam.....

Featured Replies

.....I want to purchase a dashcam but I dont like the idea of a wire trailing down over the dashboard, or going to the bother of hiding it behind the headlining, so...does anyone know if there is such a thing as a battery powered dashcam?

Many thanks.
Mike.

It's simple to do. Mine took about 5 minutes to run from the camera to the fusebox, though I don't have airbags in my A pilar. There's a number of threads on 'how to' I used the one Fubar did in the Octy mk2 section. Battery ones probably won't be much good as they have limited battery life of around 1 hr and you don't know when you'll need it.

Another one here who just wired the camera into the fuse box so no wiring visible. Took about half an hour and that's because I'm a perfectionist. :)

Seems dash camera's are heavy power users, so they appear to only run 10 to 30 minutes before the battery needs re-charging ..not an ideal length of time?

Thanks everyone, very much, for your responses.

Looks like a battery powered one is impractical so I'll have to have a rethink.

You could try only as a suggestion the following?

Rigged-up my little Samsung 1065 camera with it's video facility, which runs on 2 x AA batteries with a maximum 4GB SD card.

I never checked-out how long it would run just using the batteries, but, the 4GB SD card could run for 55 minutes looking at the maximum recording indicator.

I also experimented and used with a series of cables and adapters for it to run off my TomTom Traffic Receiver with no problem, being DC 5volt 2amps output.

The last set-up will also run the Mini 0806 dash camera, being the same power required..

Thank you.

Bet its nice and sunny down there. (I'm a Plymouth `bouy`)

Yes 'mandp', it is sunny, but the blustery wind stops it getting hot, by keeping humidity mild.

So your a southwest fella too, we're everywhere, nearly like the immigrants coming into this country in the thousands.LOL

Use your mobile phone? Ive tried it with my Sony xperia Z2, and it works like a charm. No problems recording several hours without running out of battery.

Certainly an idea. Thank you `Gromle`

It's pretty easy to hide the wire in an Octy, not sure about your Mazda.

I tried one with teh Accord and the trim fit is much tighter than the Octy and it would be much much harder to put the wire out of site
