Superb hunting - Herts and beyond

Thanks to lg10hmc for sending details of his car over - we're holding out for an estate at the moment, so the hunt continues! If nothing else turns up in the next few weeks, I may go back to the sellers of car #4 and see if they are willing to deal a bit more.

  • Number Four looks in pretty good condition? Got Park Assist, the newer model Columbus, the rail storage system in the back and I think it has an electric tailgate too?

  • Oh yeah, the torque on the 170 is great! Whoosh! LOL!

  • Number 4 does have front sensors, its a requirement for park assist which it does have along with the electric tailgate.   If you look by the front wheel you can just make out the side parking senso

Right, looking a bit further afield now - although I reavel to Bristol regularly so this one isn't such an off the wall option - I have a trusted friend who could go and look at it too

Similar spec to the grey one I looked at - few more miles on the clock (70K), but FSH. Not as nice a colour perhaps.

I think you need to see a white one in the flesh to know if you like it or not, I don't think pics necessarily do it (the colour) justice - as always comes down to your personal prefs.

Looks like that one has park assist too, it has the extra sensor on the front side.

It's in the best colour IMO

Ha! That's what the ad for this white one says too

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201504152624323

It's a bit of a trek to get up to look at that one (Brighouse, Yorks), but although it doesn't list them, it looks to have the front sensors - but I think not park assist. More miles (76k), slightly fewer toys, FSH but not done since 63K, so I am looking at a service and probably cambelt change, but it is under £10K.

Anyone had any dealings with The Trade Car Outlet? EDIT - called them up - they are owned by D M Keith, who are Skoda agents. That's a bit reassuring. This lot sell the cars that are over the "offical" Skoda agents allowance for mileage (70k).

To be honest, my wife's mainly worried it will look dirty in white :/

+1 to that! LOL! I specifically wanted one in white, having seen one in the flesh on the road and that's what I got. The combi looks even better in white than the twindoor.

So, this one has a lot of toys, but it is still overpriced with that mileage so, bid 'em in the nuts...! :D

If you're not completely wedded to an estate, I have a 2012/12 black 2.0tdi Elegance 4x4 Twindoor for sale - search on the for sale section under me for full details - currently at 29.5k miles and just had MOT done with no issues. Tyres are 5-6mm all round and even wear.

Pm me if you want to find out more - if you travel to Bristol from Herts you probably pass not too far away from me in Woking as I'm only about 15-20 mins away from Bracknell (J10 M4)...

Good luck with the hunt. You'll find one

Sorry zeddicus, the estate is what is needed really - dogs and all that.

Go and see the white one!

I'm going to get my friend to go and look at the one near Bristol later in the week hopefully. Tempted by the idea of the cheaper white one up near Wakefield http://www.thetradecaroutletossett.co.uk/used-cars/skoda-superb-2-0-tdi-cr-dpf-elegance-dsg-5dr-ossett-201504152624323 - but I would have to trust the dealer to buy that far from home. I have just spoken to them, and the car has full dealership service history, the belt/pump etc was done last service, and they'll put a full RAC warranty on it so I can get any issues addressed locally rather than pegging it up to Yorkshire. Fewer toys on it, but it has the front parking sensors which is the upgrade we wanted.

I guess you have to weigh-up the £2k (before negotiation of course!) for the additional extras the Bristol car has over the Wakefield one. We live in Kingston, Surrey. We went upto Benfield in Harrogate in 2007 to view and then buy our MKI. That was a 500 mile round trip. They delivered the car, and took it back as it has damage the wasn't on the car at the time of purchase. I went with me mate to Blade Gloucester last August to view and test drive the MKII. We bought that, they did the small bodywork bits it needed and again, they delivered it FOC. I really think you need to go and see them in the flesh and drive them too.

No problems mate, good luck with the search...

Just looked on Autotrader and the price has been changed to £11749, and it looks a fair bit less "tired" than the cheaper one, so am arranging for a viewing next week once they get it on the premises.

That's great. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

What are the extra toys on the Bristol one that make it £2k better than the one in Wakefield? The Wakefield one has FSH, cambelt and pump done and they are offering an RAC warranty - sounds good to me, but you have to go and see it before buying

It's a fair point. It's mainly because the cheaper one looks a bit "tired" inside - though a valet may address that. The other key issue is that I am down in Bristol regularly, so feel a bit more comfortable buying from somewhere I can go back to more easily.

  • Author

Well, that adds interest to the equation. The cheaper one has heated rear seats. So it's heated rears (and cheaper) vs keyless entry, electric boot and (I think) park assist.

  • Author

Off to see the cheaper one tomorrow... fingers crossed it's a good 'un, as my wife thinks I'm mad going so far to look at a car ;)

ELECTRIC BOOT! Trust me!

  • Author

...but £2000 for an electric boot is a lot to pay.

You haven't started to negotiate on the cost yet! Plus isn't the £2k more for Keyless + Park Assist + Electromatical Tailgate.. and its white! :)

  • Author

True, there's keyless & park assist as well. The cheaper one's white too...

Car A

170CR DSG Elegance Estate

70K, £11749

FSH

White

Keyless Entry

Front & Rear Sensors, Park Assist

Electroboot

Car B

170CR DSG Elegance Estate

76K, £9750

FSH

White

Front & Rear Sensors

Heated Rears

Cambelt etc done

Satnav up to date

Recent tyres

I'd hoped to have had a friend look at the more expensive one (car A) by the time I went up to see car B, but looks like that isn't going to happen.

Not sure how much negotiation there will be on either car really, as demand seems fairly high for them. To put it bluntly, the £2k difference - or even £1500 - would pay for plenty of other things around the house, so toys are nice, but do they add THAT much to resale in 2-3 years? Probably not.

(Sadly at 01.36am) I notice the "cheaper one" is no longer listed on the site - did you buy it? :)

  • Author

Not yet - they have it "put by" for me so I have first dibs, but no commitment to buy.
