Creaking noise from RHS B pillar area.

Featured Replies

My car has done just under 12.5 k and I am increasingly noticing a creaking noise that sounds like it is originating from the RHS B pillar. It is most noticeable when the car is travelling slowly going around bends or on uneven surfaces. I read on a VW forum that some door lock mechanisms can cause this and it sounds like the creaking noise is around the B pillar. I bought some lithium grease and sprayed the lock area on the RHS drivers door. Hopefully that might cure the noise.

Has anyone else experienced the creaking noise that seems to come from the door/ b pillar area and subsequently had any success with greasing the lock mechanism?

2 likely things it might be ...

1 door seals. Try wiping them with a rag which has some silicone spray on it to lubricate them or

2 the fable loose cables inside the pillar (search the forum - there are literally hundreds of posts

If it's creaking rather than rattling then it's most likely the seals are dry.

I answered my own question in that a good application of lithium grease did the trick. It will be interesting to see how long it goes before the creaking noise returns. Initially, I didn't suspect the lock mechanism as there seemed to be some grease in there.

Normally I wouldn't ask such a trivial question but I was curious to hear if anyone else had the same issue and from the lack of replies, obviously not.

Might be worth noting, that the manual specifically advices against using silicone based products.

Interesting. I've been doing this on cars for the last decade or more and it has helped with creaking noises without issue.  Maybe on the MQB cars they have used cheaper rubber????

I wonder about that aswell. Silocone has almost been mandatory in the climate I live in if you want to enter your car ripping of the doorseals....

The manual says the seals are covered by a lacquer that will deteriorate if you use silicone. I've been reading this on car magazines too, it's apparently quite common on new cars.
