Amundsen or columbus?

I posted on this a month or so ago as I was undecided, but didn’t get any comments to assist me.  However, like you, I eventually settled for the (standard fit) Amundsen in my on order SE L over the £1000 extra for the benefits of Columbus.  We have the Columbus equivalent in our Audi and it’s certainly better, but not £1000 better in a £20k car.  However, be aware, upgrading subsequently won’t be an option so if you are really still unsure, pay the extra now.

Thanks for your reply. Can you specify in what way you notice the differences? I may still be able to change my order.

I don't know how is in 2017 cars, but I was surprised that Columbus in 2016 has very same screen resolution as Amundsen MIB2.

It is much bigger but with bigger pixels, same information there. Maps are 3D over 2.5D as they call it. Very small difference, you see buildings in cities. Didn't have time to play much, but briefly unable to find a significant difference, not nearly as how much they ask.

I wish a Columbus owner writes a few. Maybe there is something worth. HDD is also not an advantage in my opinion over SD. Quite cheap now you can get multiple SD-s and with just a few to have terabytes of music and FLACs in your car.

With Columbus the car has an internal 4G sim which includes 3 years for all the features.  On Amundsen you rely on your phone data package via usb for streaming etc.  The larger screen and tile home screen are nicer and the sat nav is far nicer to programme with a far better traffic information system.  The screen is higher definition and the hard drive maps update via the sim.  You also get the option of a Google Earth map view which is rather good.  Other features that I’m not so bothered about are the hard drive to store music and the DVD player.  The lack of the buttons down the sides on Columbus are not liked by some though.  The Amundsen Nav is a bit cruder with the maps on an SD card which you can update free for 3 years using your PC.  However, I have this system on my current Yeti and it isn’t bad.  I think if you will be doing a lot of miles and using the nav and other tech a lot it may be worth the extra, but couldn’t justify the extra £1k as most of my miles are ‘local’ and the nav is only used for more occasional longer trips where I need directions.  I did pay the extra £500 for the Canton sound though having listened to both, it’s far better.
