Handbrake Issue?

Featured Replies

I've noticed today that the handbrake on the Superb seems to now be coming up quite high compared to how it used to be.... I've also noticed that it only does this when the footbrake is applied. If i apply the handbrake without the footbrake on it only comes up about three or four notches but as soon as you apply the footbrake it can come up another two or three notches and if you apply it when the footbrake is on it comes up around seven or so notches in the first place.

Any ideas what this is??? Is it something that would be covered by the Skoda extended warranty? It goes in to the dealers tomorrow for it's DSG oil & filter change so is it worth mentioning then or something for me to get done elsewhere?

It might be because they are warn and need adjusting, I would have thought they would adjust automatically though.

As for the thing about the foot break I don't think this is a problem. I believe this is because the foot break is applying pressure so helping you pull it further if you get my meaning? Someone mentioned it to me a while ago and I forget exactly what they said but it's like having an extra guy in tug of war.

I'm certainly no mechanic, but it's what I can offer in the way of help.

This sounds like you setting off the automatic HB adjuster. If the Bowden cables are very new then the cables might be stretching, or if they're very old the sheaths could be collapsing along their length, which is a 5 minute job for a dealer to check so yes tell them.
