We've got a Popemobile!

Featured Replies

Fabia is back in the garage and they've given us a Roomster DSG as a courtesy car. Much quieter than the Fabia and the engine/gearbox work really well together. It's a low spec model so none of the luxuries we're used to and other than lurching through corners like the very tall thing that it is I'm actually enjoying the drive. It does look ridiculous though!

What engine is in her?

BTW unless the ESP is off she shouldn't be lurching too much, mind you, they always should have been offered with a decent RARB on the options list. After a while you develop a style of driving that means you can overcome the natural limitations of the design and you find yourself hustling her along at a good pace. They're actually very grippy, shod with the right rubber, they can take corners, its just about technique and having a fistful of BRAVE..lol

"Lurch" as in leaning over as a result of being tall and with relatively soft suspension but yes, it is more than capable of being hustled along reasonably swiftly. I think it's the 1.2 TFSI engine as I believe that is the only petrol that is available with the DSG (happy to be corrected on this).

I drive a Citigo so being brave in the corners is standard practice!  :D  :D  :D

WTF is that? Makes the Roomster look stylish!

I thought they were the same thing... seriously though they must have been high on crack up at skoda hq whilst looking at pictures of a renault extra van and they must all gone "yeah that looks cool"

Is it a Renault?

Is it a Renault?

Renault Extra

Designed by a man with only a ruler.

Itll blend in again soon. All the manufacturers are using rulers again now

We've done about 440 miles in the Popemobile now. The looks are a bit Marmite but everyone in our family is agreed; it looks rubbish! However, I have become a bit of a fan of the 1.2 engine with the DSG gearbox; works an absolute treat and is a pleasure to drive. Has enough poke to get up to speed quickly enough, is smooth and doesn't kick down unnecessarily. MPG is acceptable; low 40s on a motorway trip and well over 50 on A roads.

Could be worse...
