Front and rear arbs

Featured Replies

Right I have the chance of getting some ebach (spelling) front and rear arbs but they are both 25mm thick, will these be ok or is it better to ha e the rear one thicker than the front ?

Cheers Ken

Stiffer rear dials out understeer and promotes oversteer. But with the front one being 25mm as well they will be balanced. You don't want to go too much stiffer on the rear and get the back end too lively, but then anything will be an improvement as I'm assuming your rear is standard and you don't have one as yet?

The Eibach ones are well rated but rather stiff apparently, if you hit Google you should find some reviews. I put the whiteline rarb on (24mm) on the middle setting and it feels nicely balanced with the standard one up front. More nosey, much less body roll but no real under or oversteer to speak of, pretty well planted it is.

I think if you went with different thicknesses on highly uprated bars you may find it imbalanced slightly, unless you like oversteer. I also assume this your daily user? I'm sure there will be someone along who has run this system and will be able to offer you experience of it, I'm just talking the general rules for balance really.

Yep it's my daily driver yellow car, yea it's standard arbs but my front one is an Audi TT one and I'm not sure how thick it is as when I got the car it didn't have a front arb.

So hopefully when I pick these up today I won't be disappointed, then it's just finding a day to fit them

No you won't be disappointed at all and 25 each end should be balanced. You'll notice a hell of a difference, take it a bit easy while you get used to it, not meaning to teach you to suck eggs but you get my drift (pardon the pun). The lack of roll and improved grip will give plenty of confidence, so be aware.

Is the Eibach rear ARB adjustable? i have a 28mm Neuspeed rear ARB on the middle (of three) setting and matching front 25mm front ARB. I can't comment on improvement as they both came on the car when I bought it, but it doesn't handle anywhere near like the blancmange that I expected the mk4 Golf platform to.

Don't think the Eibach is, whiteline one has 3 settings also.

I'd go with the RARB first and see how it goes.  I like to change one thing at a time and see what difference it makes so that I can get a full understanding of the impact on the feel of the car.  In the time I had my Octavia, the RARB was enough for me to improve the handling to a point where it could be a relaxed cruiser but also have the potential to be hustled along when needed.  In the end it was on the highest setting, but that suited my driving style as I like the rear of the car to come into play when needed.

Good point but it's near impossible to get just a rear these days unless it's whiteline or you get lucky with a used one. When I was after one before whiteline were available again everything else was f+r.

There was a brand on ebay just doing rear, can't remember what they were, they were white.

Ah, I hadn't realised that as I got mine second hand at the time so didn't know that.  Worth knowing I guess.

Yeah and it makes it a pretty pricey upgrade when you have to get the pair, my wallet wouldn't stretch, very pleased with the whiteline plus standard though.

That's exactly the set up I had.  I know the Whiteline isn't the most expensive option but it certainly worked for me.

Its great, I may turn it up a notch but it's certainly thicker than the front one enough to get the balance much improved and how you want it. It's quite an agricultural one but then it's a basic principle and like you say, it works for sure.

Well for £150 for both I won't complain and it has to be an improvement on what's on now

It will be and that's worth every penny. At that price you may consider just fitting rear first and see how the balance is with what you've got up front.

Yes mate, with u clamps on the beam. Bushes are quality and 3 point adjustment. I got the garage to throw mine on when it was in for something else as I don't have ramps or axle stands, easy enough fit though. And even though it stiffens the car it's more comfortable because you're not lolling around. I feel sea sick in SWMBO's car now after being in mine.

Rare on ebay when I've looked in the past. The ones that are for sale are going for top money.

They are I think you need to get in the queue and wait for the shipment basically. Think they come from Oz but there's been so many backlogs that as soon as they're in they fly out the door. Check with the site sponsors what the situation is.

They are in stock with Damian at the moment. £168!! Dear me....

Its worth doing

For a bent bar and some nuts and bolts!! Dear dear me!!

Its worth doing

Yeah many have mentioned it's been THE best mod they've done to the mk1 octavia. But £168?
