TMC AUTOFLASH

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any thoughts about the TMC AUTOFLASH?

 http://www.tmcmotorsport.com/TMCAutoFlash.aspx?SID=342340054

They claim to "tune the engine & the DSG gearbox" via the OBD port.

Seems to good to be true somehow - and you know what they say about things that seem to good to be true.

I know TMC are well established but then there was all that hoohah about them selling tuning boxes on Ebay that weren't all they seemed.

Any thoughts anyone? Has anybody tried one?

Gotta do something to win this Santa Pod thingy.......

Best regards,

It's just a bit vague on detail & I can't find any reviews anywhere. Somebody must have tried it I would have thought.

They offer a 30 day money back guarantee so I suppose its worth a gamble.

At least I had a good time laughing while reading their conspiracy theories that explain all the philosophy behind mapping modern engines, basically it's just a "limiter". De-activate that and you're good to go. Thank you sir.

So spell it out for me please. Are you saying it's a con?  I can't imagine why TMC would prejudice their reputation, if there aren't at least modest gains to be seen by their device. The TMC tuning box works OK doesn't it?

I must admit I am highly suspicious of their claims but I don't have the technical expertise to be able to argue against them. By reading your previous posts I know that you are a respected authority on Twincharger technology so go on, indulge an old fool & spell it out. Is it worth a try or are their claims as crazy as they seem

Not a Con, but they do use the Cars engines details and then get them wrong sometimes & have the exclusions.

They lump together engines and gearboxes, and what can be done with a DQ250 is different from a DQ200.

Previous listing for the 1.4TSI / TFSI BHP was wrong on the 132 kw & the 136kw.

See what they say,

but as for the CTHE / DSG it is rather a gamble, but if you are willing to take the gamble.

Upgraded Cluch Packs are more important for the DQ200 than removing a limiter IMO.

As well to get a Remap for the engine and upgrades for the DSG.

If TMC have it sorted any faults or issues out for only £418.80, what is the worst that can happen.?

Personally i like just how a DQ200 operates as they come already.

I am not saying it won't do anything. I am sure it will offer an increase maybe like other tuning boxes have. The big question is, as with actual remaps themselves, how does it work to get that extra power from the engine and how safe is it for the car in the long term. I don't consider myself an authority on twinchargers, but by discussing thoroughly with my tuner and other much more knowledgeable people about the 1.4 tsi engine tuning abroad I have understood a thing or two and most importantly how complex these engines are to properly and safely squeeze more juice out of them. Some of the most well-known and otherwise VW-specialised tuning houses had serious issues setting up proper maps for them for quite some time and in the end, they settled for safe stage 1 maps but no further development.

So my point was, generally but especially with these engines even more, you want at least to hand your car over to someone who really knows what he's doing and doesn't just think that all there is to getting more power out of it is a safety limiter the manufacturers put in place for the ignorant drivers as those guys claim. That entire promoting text says nothing really and looks as if they've copied/pasted it from some other cars to the 1.4 TSI page. It's also surprising that they don't give any solid numbers and the gains, unless those random Nurburgring times of some supercars mean anything to you. Then there's also the CTHE remap question as George points out which remains yet to be confirmed.

All in all, my advice would be if you're seriously looking into a remap, search well and try to find the most proven and competent tuner (for this particular engine) that you can get based on your location and budget, speak with him, see if he gives you confidence and go for it. Don't just go and buy the first off-the-shelf product based on cost that claims superior results with all too general and meaningless arguments.

Now I understand. Thanks for that.

Think I'll stick with the Bluespark. I've had it 9 months now & it hasn't blown the engine up -yet.

again, have we had any qualified gains for a CTHE remap yet?

we  found something interesting at coomb yesterday when plugging jason and his laptop into out cars, my car (2013 CTHE) we went in and turned OFF the XDS ("not activated") was the option chosen....

then he tried to do it on Jab's car (2012 CTHE) and it was a different ECU, the old options were displayed for XDS with just the three settings, "weak" being the lowest on offer....

there are SO many differences we don't know about , clearly shown by our simple laptop attempts yesterday! lol..

I think the autoflash is a dsg reflash and doesn't alter the engine ecu. The power they talk about I believe comes from the re tune of the dsg box. The reason I ask this is you can run both the autoflash and tmc tuning box together.

When it talks about increasing power I think this is done by removing the gear torque limiters

About the last thing you want to do if you have a DQ200 is mess about with them, unless you have deep pockets.

Skoda / VW will be fixing them for a long time into the future at their expense,  they have not yet had all the ones that need the Service Campaign and the Oil Change or Software Update in yet to do.
