Impressed with 1.2 Tsi Engine

Featured Replies

collected my mk3 1.2 Tsi 110bhp manual hatch today,my Octavia mk2 vrs going in p/x. As my annual mileage has decreased to around 5000 miles per year it seemed sensible to go for a petrol this time.Very surprised by the power this little 1.2 unit churns out,Just wondered if there are any other members have downsized like I have.

Going to. Driving a Mercedes 170 hp cdi, downsizing to the same as yours. Was impressed at the 90 hpo test driving so sure the 110 hp delivered in less than two weeks wont let me down :)

Sure you won't be dissapointed Pfaff I to road tested the 90 bhp I was impressed with that, went for the 110 mainly for the 6 speed box.

This is good news as I've got wife to order herself a Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL and it has the 6 speed box!  Now if everything goes to plan, that order will go through okay, if it has not been accepted by VW for build by week 24 or 26, then the engine will change to 1.0TSI 110PS - and that is not what I want as that is the 3 cylinder UP etc engine.  Seems like the 1.2TSI 110 is being dropped probably due primarily to emissions  - the 1.0TSI 110 might just sneak in a lower grouping for road tax etc. Also I'd expect the 1.0TSI to be cheaper to build, so win-win for some people - I'd rather stick with an engine that has some history!

Edit:- currently she has a 2002 Polo 1.4 16v 75PS, so she should notice an improvement as well as the newer cars are lighter.

Which I did by the same reason :)

My own car has 6 speed so getting wife to get a 6 speed makes life easier for me as I'll remember to use 6th gear!!

I am downsizing from a 2005 skoda fabia estate 1.9 diesel to a petrol fabia hatch SEL 1.2 TSI in blue. Since i am retired and only doing mainly short runs and horror stories of diesel particulate filters clogging up if you don't look after them and costing a lot to replace.

Currently getting about 45 to the gallon will be happy if I can get the same with the new car I think Skoda saying it will do 60 to gallon is probably very optimistic in the real world Joe

1.2dsg 110. Easily getting 50+mpg. Pretty fast when it wants to be however its very thirsty if you floor it.

I think you are referring to the 105ps 1.2TSI engine that is being dropped. It was prevalent in the Fabia 2 range and has been overhauled for the Mk3. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The 1.2 tsi is being replaced in the polo for the 1.0 tsi its already in the A1

No, definitely the 110PS 1.2TSI, the 1.0 110PS (Output = TBA  Torque = TBA according to Polo configurator) has emissions of 110 so that is one reason it has replaced the 1.2TSI 110PS - for me, I'll risk the initial extra road tax of £10 and stick with an engine with some history!

As usual VAG is modernising its ranges from the top down, as said it started with Audi A1, then VW Polo, next should be Seat Ibiza followed by Skoda Fabia.

VW Facelifted the Polo MK5 2014 and fitted the revised Euro 6 Engines,

then the A1 was Facelifted for 2015 & got the engines,

The 2015 All New 3rd Generation Skoda Fabia got a different platform with Elements of etc etc & the engines, 1.0, 1.2 TSI & 1.4TDI

All Euro 6 Emission.

The Mk4 Seat Ibiza is due to get Facelifted again later this year.

So no 'All New' which is actually New until they replace the Mk5 Facelift Polo which is on sale now and facelifted last year.

Just another change of engines.

Long time now down the line until there is another All New 4th Generation Fabia.

Remember there has been a Fabia, a Mk2 Fabia, a Mk2 Facelift Fabia making the All New 3rd Generation actually the 4th Fabia.

Remember it is a 1.0 TFSI when it is a Audi, only 1.0 TSI in a VW, & maybe Seat or Skoda later on.

So you pay extra for the letter 'F'.

So you pay extra for the letter 'F'.

- which means?

T is for Turbo

S&I should mean Single Injection.

But the F? Couldnt be Four as being a 3-cyl Engine :D

Take the 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-136 kw Minimum Twincharger Engine. (Dual Charge),

they are the same engine and the Audi TFSI 136kw has a differnt map.  Put them on a Dyno they have the same Output.

a 1.4 TSI ACT or a 1.4 TFSI COD, same engine.

I noticed that but just thought it was down to someone making a mistake, F was originally for Fuel, but when "Fuel Stratification" as a design concept was binned, the F went as well, no doubt someone scratched their head and worked out TSI looked better than TI - though, one thing, have they added inlet injection (to add to the direct injection) to the original setup to help keep the inlet tract clean?

TSI

Turbo Stratified Injection

TFSI

Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection

We recently had a Vauxhall Mokka 1.4 Turbo Auto as a courtesy car

Not driven a petrol for a long time and the last one was a 3.5 V6 Mercedes.

I was very impressed by how a small engine can perform so well. It was very torquey and pulled well.

I also recently drove a Ford B-Max 1.0 Turbo 100ps. Again, amazing that such a small engine can churn out so much power and torque.

Small petrols with a turbo seem to be where it's heading.

I suspect our next car will be a petrol due to the majority of our journeys not being suitable to a modern DPF fitted car. A 1.2 or 1.4 TSI would certainly be a consideration.

Thank you.

I take it as TSI runs without using fuel, then... ::) :)

It would be nice if they did,

but the good thing is that you can drive a VW engine without having a 'F', and yet have the same mechanical components.

Interresting. Need a bit updating though.

According to that article the 1,2 l 4 cyl TSI cam shaft is chain driven? Hopefully it is, but Ive heard otherwise.

The original 1.2 TSI which came out in 2009 is chain and 8v but the latest engines are 16v and belt, in the new Fabia and Octy III. When all models get the Euro VI engines the 8v engine will be withdrawn.

I wish some people could keep quiet about sensitive things like belt driven camshafts!

Anyway, it makes a great opportunity to replace lots of bits every few years!!

So does anyone know if they added an extra injector in the inlet tract to combat coking up the inlet ports, like Toyota etc did with their DI engines?

Question..... I have the 110 engine. I have been chatting to a mate, who is a total skoda man... He's said about putting super unleaded in, does anyone know if it would make a difference or not? Or a waste of my hard earned cash? :)

Cheers

It's a waste of your hard earned cash on an engine only producing 110bhp. I tried running Tesco Momentum 99 in my 105 TSI and it made no difference whatsoever, MPG stayed the same and 'performance' remained the same too. You'll only see a difference on higher tuned engines like the Fabia vRS twin charger TSI which has numerous threads on here.
