front door speakers making crackling noise

Featured Replies

I was listening to my stereo i fitted from my old car the other day. noticed at a certain volume is resonates, and sounds awful. my guess is its the original factory speakers. seen some replacements on ebay. how easy is it to fit them?

The standard speakers are pretty crap! From what I'm told it's a relatively easy job -basically whip the door card off. Just bear phase issues in mind.

phase issues?

Have a look around the Fabia 1 and ICE and Security sections.

Should fit component speakers up to 6.5".

Will need MDF (potentially better) or Autoleads etc... (much simpler) spacers.

When I replaced a front door speaker on my 2004 1.2 12V Fab I first read the many threads on door leaks to learn how to "whip the door card out".

The speaker was held to the carrier plate on the door by 4 blind pop rivets that had to be drilled out.

I used pop rivets to fit the new speaker after first using double sided sticky tape on the blind side of the hole to fasten a washer to suit the pop rivet.

I purchased the speaker from Briskoda and 2 years on it's been fine. My old speaker was "crackling" because part of the paper cone was torn, I think from old age. Make sure you fit the gasket around the new speaker otherwise your door will leak!

You can install 6.5" speakers as vindaloo says just make sure they are not more than 62mm in depth or you will have trouble squeezing them in.

Use mdf spacer rings if you can as that will give you a solid base to fix your speakers to and unless you are installing an amplifier you may need to splice into original speaker wiring or buy adapters.

Don't worry about speaker phasing as long as you connect the positive to the positive and negative to negative you will be fine, some people swap the phasing to change the sound stage especially with subwoofers.

It's quite an easy job to do and any speaker you fit will be better than the standard speakers.
