Octavis MK 1 faulty central locking passenger door

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have just bought a Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi on a 2002 plate which I am told is a Mark 1 car. The car is the 100 bhp model and after just a few days of ownership the central locking has developed a fault. When I lock or unlock the car using the fob the passenger door only will not unlock. It appears to have jammed shut because I can't even open the front passenger door when i'am sat inside the car. Other than the one front passenger door, every other aspect of the central locking appears to work fine. I have disconnected the battery in the hope this would reset the system but this hasn't worked. Do any of my fellow Skoda owners have any useful suggestions that i could try??

Thanking you all in kind anticipation!

The MkI Octavia unfortunately suffers from faults with cereal locking. There are lots of threads on here to assist you. Sounds like your passenger door is deadlocked I've never had to deal with that but as I said if you search for central locking faults it will come up with a fare few. Hope that helps?

Hi, to try and unlock it thump the door just below handle as you unlock. Once door is open get the door card off. It could be that it's just your lock mech being dry and sticking, lube the hell out of it and work the locking loads (before you shut the door). If this doesn't help you may need a new mech (very reasonably priced pattern parts on ebay that work fine), or it could be fractured wires along the loom (especially where they pass through door pilars), or it could be a fault within the multiplug (attached to window motor).

Unfortunately these doors suffer with water ingress as it passes through and gets into some quite sensitive parts eventually. Try some basic steps and checks before you go buying stuff though. Hope this helps. Lots of other stuff on this. Have a look in tech section. I did a post on checking and protecting multiplugs.

Hi Guys,

Thanks to YellowCar & simspj for some really useful tips. I really like the Skoda cars and don't want to sell the Octavia. I'll try out all your suggestions over the bank holiday weekend, thanks once again, your help & suggestions are much appreciated.

No problem you know where we are if you need anything else.
