Help needed urgently...getting the door lock rod back on

Featured Replies

Hi all...I'm tearing my hair out at this point. My partner's Fabia's driver's door window was smashed and stuff stolen out of the car. I'm after getting a replacement glass and took the regulator carrier off to clear out all the broken glass that was inside the door. All was going relatively OK up to this point I thought until I started trying to manoeuvre the carrier back onto the door. I ended up disconnecting the lock rod from the door lock mechanism and I've been trying for the last hour to get it back on but with no luck. It 's becoming like an impossible brainteaser puzzle to me at this point that i just can'r seem to figure out. Can anyone give me any advice?

P.S. I was also thinking of just leaving the rod off completely as it's only used to indicate whether the door is locked or not and thought she might be able to live withouth it without much problem.

I had the same problem. I left it off in the end. You can still see the rear door button.

Yeh...I'm after doing the same. I was working on it between showers today and just wanted to get it finished in the end before the next downpour. Not ideal but I figured if I find out how to reattach it I'll do it again at a later date.

It just slots in and turns. I think it's far easier with the lock unit off the car.

It took me a couple of hours to get this back on and was a total pita!

All I can say is be patient and try to align the for carrier so that you're minimising the movement of the metal arm which attaches to the lock mech.

Yes...I saw this diagram when I searched the web. I could see how it attached - it's similar to some internal door handle connections on some cars in the way the rod is kept in position with a sort of plastic tang but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to maneouvre the rod so that it would locate correctly in the plastic clip where the small retaining tang would be keeping the rod in contact with the clip. I'll have a look at removing the door lock and see if I'll go at it again. I was wondering is it possible at all to get it back on without removing the lock.

If I was to get the lock rod back on then I would certainly follow your advice in moving the carrier as little as possible!!...:-) Is there some trick to getting it located back correctly in the plastic clip of the lock?

I went back at this again yesterday and finally managed to get the lock-rod back in the plastic clip of the lock. I ended up doing as I saw someone on here describe which was to line-up the end of the rod with the hole and then bend the plastic tang back over the rod as you manoeuvre the rod home into the hole and the tang outside the rod. It was fairly easy when going at it this way. I was following Tech1e's guide but I couldn't get the regulator arms under/inside the door when I had the lock-rod threaded through the carrier so I ended up getting it by fitting the regulator arms under the door first and then wrangling the lock-rod through the hole in the carrier - being careful not to knock it it out of the lock again!!...:-) Anyway...all went well and all back together and looked good as new...until I went for a test drive and found I couldn't get out of the car...i forgot to hook up the cable to the internal handle...lol. Thankfully it was no hard job loosening off the trim clips and fitting the cable in position. All's well and thanks for all the help everyone.

I struggled initially with this too but found a really easy way to do it and that is to bend the rod to give a better angle and then bend it back once it's located. It took about 30 secs to do it that way.

It's worth it just to avoid the puzzle!
