SD card music on new Octavia

Featured Replies

Hey all, I have just taken delivery of my new Octavia III SE 1.6 and it was a factory built one that I couldn't get my own spec on. I wanted the MFSW with controls for phone, radio etc but it wasn't available. I think I can just about cope with that. However, I don't think I can cope without my music. On my "old" Octavia II SE + I had the MDI and for the past 3 years I have enjoyed controlling my IPOD from my radio. Now I no longer have that option.

I thought I would be able to Bluetooth it, but I can no longer control the music via the Amundsen controller. If I load my IPOD contents onto an SD card will I be able to control it through the Amundsen from the SD card? Any answers will be welcomed.

Also, I am beginning to regret not paying that bit more to get an Elegance. Is there any chance I could change my mind and get the Elegance model instead? Anyone ever done this, bearing in mind I only got my SE on Saturday!

You've got no chance, unless you're prepared to take a bit hit I'm afraid.

Yes music on an SD card can be controlled through Miss Amundsen.

I have all my music on an SD card in conjunction with the "new" Amundsen II and it works exceptionally well. SWMBO insists I use a black SD card as it matches the black front of the Amunsen. I wish she'd mentioned it before I copied everything onto a spare SD card I had which was blue!!

Yes just copy the contents of the music folder in itunes onto an SD card (or parts of it), then it will work fine.  If you're doing it from a mac then there's an extra step you need to take as it puts loads of hidden files on too which show up.

Even the elegance doesn't come with ipod control anyway.  Well mine didn't, so you're not going to gain much other than the wheel controls.  Didn't realise the SE didn't have them, in fact it doesn't normally have amundsen either.  So that's an odd spec really.

Is there a maximum size of SD card the Amundsen can read?

Also can you use a USB memory stick in the USB port and play music from that?

Through the USB port you can connect a memory stick or even a portable hard-drive for your music & it should play fine. (At least you can on Columbus so Amundsen should be the same).

Not sure of the maximum size for Amundsen (I'm sure 32Gb works though).

Great, is a USB memory stick controllable from the head unit same as an SD card?

It sure is controllable

It the music tab you can select music from the following sources: USB, SD-Card1, SD-Card2 (Columbus only I guess), Jukebox (Columbus hard-drive), Aux & Bluetooth.

With the exception of Aux all the rest are controllable in the same way to skip between tracks, play, pause etc.

Bluetooth function is dependant on your device functionalites/configuration.

I have a 64GB one in mine (Amundsen) works fine, with the amount of music on there it takes a while to find a certain track though

I agree. With a 32Gb SD card full of albums it becomes difficult to navigate through the folder structure to find the album you want.

I have my music split between 2 cards for easier searching.

Its just a shame that you cannot switch between folders/albums quickly using the MFSW.

I find it quite easy to navigate if you just structure it.

Root/artist/album.

And browsing artists is fast when you press the button(on screen) looking like a head with a talkbubble.

This is on a Columbus.

I have around 30 albums plus about 1500 songs on a tiny 32gb USB card, it only sticks out about 6mm from the housing so does not get in the way, I do find the Amundsen a bit temperamental as I always have media set to USB but often as not it does not find the USB and plays my phone files on Bluetooth.

I also have tried to set it to play randomly across all albums but it seems to get stuck on one album and I have to re-select 'mix'. Maybe I am doing it wrong though!

Why not use a black marker for the card? cheaper than buying a new SD Card!! :notme: :notme:

128 GB SD card working perfectly on mine.

I find if you select random while playing one folder, then it just finds within that folder. If you have some songs not in a folder but just on the card, start playing one of those then select random, it should then randomly select all your songs.

Do they have to be in the root of the card?

I am using a 128gb card, which works fine. I have set up a folder named music and in this I have set up artist folders if I have more than one album these go into sub folders within. I have all of my music on iTunes and just simply copy and paste into the folders I have created. The only downside is the album art doesn't always display which isn't that big of a deal for me. You can also set up random play for the whole card or just the now playing album.

Yes, it's not worth worrying about the album art.  It has too tight criteria, so if your art is outside of this it won't show up.  I have high quality images on mine as they display on an AppleTV so they don't show up at all on the amundsen.  Low quality images will display generally though.

Hi all, Does anyone know if the Amundsen can sort the music from the SD card by Artist/Album/Title?

I'm currently using an external 500Gb portable hard drive ,which i got from ASDA for £30 ,into the USB socket. It has to be formatted in FAT32 , so i had to use a program from Verbatim website. I have it sitting on top of the front ashtray cover.
