Alloy wheels - surface corrosion

Featured Replies

Good evening,

I noticed recently that two of my Octavia alloys are showing signs of surface corrosion - bubbling.

The car is two years and seven months old and I have owned it from new.

Is this something that can be repaired under warranty ?

Any advice will be gratefully received, many thanks.

As long as there are no scuffs to the wheel...then.. Yes

Take it to your dealer and they should take pictures and send them to Skoda CS for a decision

I agree with ChrisRs... It should be covered under warranty. As a matter of interest VW had many corroded Tiguan alloys replaced under warranty. The Tig owners had no problems getting them replaced... In fact I seem to remember one guy had them replaced twice!

After a three week wait, Skoda have now agreed to refurbish all four wheels, as on closer inspection were all showing signs of surface corrosion.

It will take two days to sort but have been offered a courtesy car so will be interesting to see what I will be given, as I haven't driven any other Skoda other than mine.

Update- Skoda changed their mind and have fitted brand new alloys to my Octavia yesterday instead of refurbishing.

A good result.

Good result but what happens in 2yrs 7 mths time when the new set do the same?  They haven't actually fixed the root cause of the problem.

That's a great result!

Well done Skoda!!

Agreed, very pleased with the outcome.

As previously mentioned, the dealer supplied me with a courtesy car and when I noticed on the form I signed, that it was a 2015 plated Fabia with only 2k on the clock, I thought that's good as I could compare it with my wife's new Polo.

However, it was the old model with the lowest spec I reckon but at least was a DSG which I am used to.

As they say "beggars can't be choosers!"

When I had replacement alloys fitted to my Octavia Scout under warranty I was surprised to be told (a few years later) that they were in fact refurbished.

If they have been replaced as brand new, do they not carry a full warranty from date of install?

If so how long is that warranty is it reduced to a standard 12months or is it still 36 months?

Just curious.

Years ago I had a MK4 Cortina and when I bought it second hand it had just had a new back exhaust with a 2year warranty at 18 months in, it was replaced as it snapped just in front of the backbox and the replacement had another 2 year warranty which was transferable to the next owner. Not sure if he ever replaced it but in effect you could get a lifetime warranty?
