Pioneer DEH-P70BT

Featured Replies

Looks like a godsend. Can add my Ipod to it, and includes bluetooth for handsfree phone....

small hitch is that the remote is hardwired, while on the Deh-p80 it's a wireless one, which would really make more sense.....however.......

So, Car Audio centre have an outfit down the road and i'm gonna pop in on way home to see what they can do as price is quoted as about

Gwilo, I have the DEH-P70BT headunit in my Boxster. Sound quality is amazing, and the remote is wireless and uses IR technology. The performance of the unit as a whole is excellent, BUT I have a few gripes with it.

1) The GUI is confusing and difficult to use until you are familliar with it.

2) In the dark, the display dims when you turn the headlights on, BUT the button illumination doesnt and its a pain in the dark as a result.

3) When making calls the person on the other end of the phone had problems hearing me, although I could hear them clear as day. This I later found out was because the phone was to close to the HU, the phone needs to be around 3ft away from the HU for the noise to clear up. Its caused by the wireless bluetooth interfering with the electronics in the HU. That said though, you dont need to touch the phone to make/recieve calls so it could stay in your jacket pocket as the HU auto connects to the phone once paired and as long as you have bluetooth discovery turned on. Make sure your phone is fully compatible, I know the Sony-Erricsson P800 defo doesnt work.

I bought it from caraudiodirect.com, very good price and quick delivery.

Confusing Gui.......i don't mind.....can't be any more confusing than the std HU, where pressing anything still leaves the "traffic programme" broadcast thing still on.......

display dims when lights on.......no biggie, it's got a remote.....lol. besides, given where the HU is located in a VW passat (where the air con is in Octavia) it really won't be an issue.

3 feet away? duly noted. will throw phone in boot... :D

Somewhere like Rochdale Car Audio would probably be pretty reasonable...

Rob.

Are they actually any good though? Just whenver i drive past, some tarted up punto or saxo is outside and, i dunno, i just get nervous.

Ever since my mate had his car "nicked" while in the care of an outfit in Bury (who even managed top not have the keys when he came to collect....:rubchin:) i'm really careful about where i take my car for work that requires me leaving it.

Are they actually any good though?

I know of a few people who've used them, and say the job's been good - I think an outfit of that size would go under very quickly if they weren't.

The way to avoid having the car stolen is to get them to do it While-U-Wait - shouldn't take more than 30 minutes for them to install the headunit.
