I have had an intermmitant fault with my turbo. In Sept last year, I booked it in to have a turbo clean at a garage. They done an innotec clean (thats the product). All seemed well for 3 months, but now the problem has now the problem has returned. I asked a local mechanic to do the Mr muscle clean. He said that if the previous clean had not worked, then this one wouldn't. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance

Makes sense bud, especially if it has only lasted a few months.

Also agreed. Since the VVT mechanism is dependant on manifold pressure, maybe the VVT pipework needs cleaning?

He also said that there are some points/tips on the end of the veins, which now could be worn.

Any idea on the best and cheapest place to get a new/refurbished turbo?

It's vanes, not veins, but that's by the by.

It's not impossible for the pivots to have worn, but I'd want to know what sort of mileage the car has before commenting further.

Further to my previous post, I have now had a reconditioned turbo fitted. The car is now running worse than before, it's lumpy on start up and is like a kangaroo for about a mile. There is very little acceleration in any gear. Can anyone shed any more light on maybe why this is happening. Is it the egr or maf sensor.? It really is worse than before.

It doesn't show any fault codes either.

Thanks For any advice

Help please

EGR and MAF should throw codes. Which makes me wonder about the "reconditioned" turbo. It's not completely unknown for "reconditioning" to involve a bath in Gunk, and a wash, and that's it.

Didnt know a turbo could have Variable Valve Timing

Dont you mean. VNT?

Variable Venturi Turbo.

Vag call it a variable geometry turbine.

True, but other people, like companies who actually manufacture rather than just buy turbo-superchargers, also use Venturi, Nozzle or vane to describe the technology.

Garrett don't call it VVT, neither do BorgWarner. or MHI. or Holset.  :wonder: Variable Vane Turbo is probably suitably uncommon to say you're kinda being a bit of an arse  :p
