Can the centre console rear ashtray be modded?

Featured Replies

My vrs has the rear heated seats and the rear ashtray. My mk5 golf had the origami fold out drinks holder which was very handy for my wife and son on long journeys. As the rear door cards won't hold a drinks can/ bottle properly i wondered if it could be retrofitted? We don't smoke and that tray is pretty useless tbh. Never seen a mk7 golf console yet but presume its the same as the octy. Cheers

Two cup holders in the rear armrest arent there? No good of course if you have a 5th passenger but am sure they are there.

Agreed unless you have a habit of back seat smoking the rear tray is pointless.

Whe ones in the rear armrest are quite small don't hold a cycling type water bottle. So I'd be interested in this as well

That's odd, the ones in my cheap combi rear armrest are adjustable and can easily accommodate a cycling water bottle or even bigger.

No provision in the rear doors at all though.

I believe the rear armrest cup holders changed from an inline adjustable holder to a side by side non adjustable for MY15.

Would be good to get rid of the ashtray too and change it for something like another cig lighter port. I know some other cars have one there.

I'm old school,I hate the idea of cup holders in a car, especially those in the rear arm rests of mine. Much prefer a smooth top, its an arm rest after all.

We never drink in the car, even on long journey's. If anyone needs a drink it makes the driver take a break from the wheel by pulling over into a service area or lay by. To have refreshment. We usually go 2 - 3 hrs between stops.

All my passengers drink quite heavily in the car, dunno if it has anything to do with my driver style though !

I got a DSG so it would be easier to drink and drive. Have to have my coffe on the long hauls.

Mines also dsg, the driver drinking would be seen as without due care or something. Its even been known for bored police to charge people for changing a radio station, eating an apple or unwrapping a sweet whilst stood in a line of traffic. However you don't hear of anyone getting done for holding a cigarette or those electronic type whilst driving.(this may upset the smokers)
