New to Skoda & Briskoda (Octavia)

Featured Replies

:) Hi Guys,

Just took delivery of my brand new Octavia 1.9 TDI

Still trying to figure out how the central locking works !! Doh!!

Welcome :wavey:

Good luck with the locking. It would be a right shame if you had to push the Octy everywhere ;)

Thankx mo. The guy at the dealers said not to leave me keys in or it would lock itself... Hmmm... I have been trying to get it to lock itself but no way. Maybe its waiting for me to be miles from home and then lock my keys in!!!

I hate dealers... took off all the advertising stickers inc. the plastic strip tucked behind the number plate, only to discover those nice people at Skoda provided two plastic lugs to screw the plate to.. What did the dealer do? Drill two holes thro the plate and body  Are the holes in line? NO!! Is the plate on str8 ? NO.. Decided to order two new plates from www.fancyplates.com and fit them myself.. :) The bonus is I get to advertise my business along the bottom of the plates instead of the dealership.

Dealers??? I'd shoot the lot of them.. :finger:

Enjoy your new car.

Understand your frusration re plate holes - in CZ and other countries they have a plate holder that fixes to these pre tapped holes. Wouldnt be too difficult for dealers to make a template to use for guidance for drilling uk plates perfect everytime and straight!

Car should only lock itself if you unlock initially and then not open a door car - auto lock will kick in after a while.

When I ordered my last new cars I asked for no stickers to be applied on the orders and thats how they were supplied :) - I just dont like stickers in windows - most dealers stick them right across the heated`window elements :thumbdwn: !

Plates now should have the supplier and postcode of the plate makers IIRC to be legal these days

John

Hi Slavnist, I got my plates from those guys and well chuffed with them. It's not much of an argument for illegal plates but I won't be happy if Plod single me out for having no postcode on my plate. Everything else is spot on, letter size, typeface and spacing blah blah blah.

My dealer managed to use the correct holes so there's no excuse for dilling the body, and the first thing I did was remove the dealers sticker from the rear window, I bought the car and they don't pay me to advertise :finger:

(extract) A bit off topic but I wonder how many people know this? Maybe a Briskoda sticky since it would avoid damage to heating elements etc to get them off?

FAO Slavnist: Aawww! Don't shoot your dealer - he did get you your car  and there's quite a long warranty... ;)

Best wishes

"He did get you your car....." !!!! THATS HIS JOB !! I paid good money and full asking price, I didn't expect him to employ some cross eyed YTS greese monkey to punch holes in my car. British workmanship!!! they don't know the meaning of the word.. :soapbox:

I understand your frustation. It was just a suggestion that keeping on good terms with your dealer (be it the first level contact or the boss) usually yields a better response, is all.

Few things in life go according to plan IMO, the trick is figuring out the easiest way to get them fixed. Sorry if not helpful - it's just what I think.

If the damage is already done, what reparation are you seeking? I think you said you were ordering new plates, so isn't it just a case of ensuring that the incorrectly drilled holes are properly sealed? (I'm no expert and could be way off beam here.)

My plates are fitted to these metal threads. Very neat and straight. Have you complained to the dealer?

:orb_elf:

Yep, I told the dealer and he said that a service instruction came from Skoda instructing them to drill and srew the plates.... Now I may be stupid, but I don't believe that for one moment...

The new plates have arrived and I have removed the swarf left by the dealer and treated/sealed the holes. The new plates have now been professionally fitted by myself !! and they are str8 true !!

How much and hour the these guys charge??? :finger:

If you want a good job doing, do it yourself.

Sorry for keep going on about dealers, but I don't have much time for incompetence, especially when they try to lie there way out of a situation.

all of our skodas have had plates stuck on except my fabs front one... guess each dealer does it different
