Auto car MG6 vs Octavia comparison

Featured Replies

Wouldn't take a review to convince me which one to own. :)

I was given the mg6 as a hire vehicle. By far the worst vehicle I have driven. I was happy to give it back. Faults galore.

The MG badge used to mean something at one time. Now it means something totally different.

Interesting to compare and contrast the fortunes of these two brands over the last 30 years.

I see the MG managed to squeeze in gas struts for the bonnet.  I still don't get why they didn't put them on the octy!

The MG6 is a POS

Nuff said ?

Ive seen a couple of these new MG's on the road and TBH with the likes of Kia and Hyundai now knocking out some very good metal (not that I am particularly into them either) why someone with any kind of financial head on their shoulders would buy one.

They are cheap for sure (I guess at face value its alot of vehicle for 16k at todays prices) but in a year or two's time it aint going to be worth a fart and I suspect that they'll prove that unpopular as a used car that you'd struggle to give it away.

Perhaps an OK vehicle for someone who doesnt much like cars, wants a new, big, well equipped and relatively powerful hatch for not alot of money and will keep it forever more but not alot of good for the rest of us.

I think if a more established european car maker had bought the brand (rather like what VAG did with Skoda) it'd stand more of a chance but as it is I reckon give it a year or two and MG will probably pull out of the UK market....they just wont sell enough.

They did! You don't need to go that far back in time to trace MG's ownership to BMW. After years of struggling to pay its way it was eventually sold by BMW to the Towers consortium for a nominal amount.

Eh? Most of that describes me to a T, and I went and purchased a Skoda. A Skoda is absolutely perfect for the above sort of person, not an MG6. I would not be seen dead in an MG6. If you see me get into an MG6 you have my permission to blow it up (with me still inside).

An MG6 is OK for naive people that think MG still actually exists for real, and are happy to purchase CCKs (cheap chinese knockoffs).

As I am none of the above, its a non starter.

Did MG used to belong to BMW as well? I know Rover did. I thought MG was already owned by Towers before BMW sold Rover to them? Could be wrong.

Either way, Towers were a bunch of crooks (if i am thinking right, and that was the same company that last owned MG Rover). Its unfortunate, but some European companies are a bunch of crooks. I wont mention any other companies I put into that bracket!!

Indeed aware of that...in fact they did produce one half decent motor under BM ownership (Rover 75/ MG ZT).....I rather meant had a well regarded EU manufacturer subsequently bought the rights rather than a chinese conglomerate they'd have a better product and be more popular.

MG was a Rover sub brand so yes that did belong to BMW...hence why they made the MG ZT (the MG badged slightly more sporty Rover 75).

BMW were rather savvy in keeping the Mini brand for themselves too.....can somewhat understand why they sold Land Rover off as they wanted to make their own SUV's and guess it was a conflict of interests.

You perhaps would not be seen dead in an MG6 but many wouldnt care particularly.

The car is after all 5k or so cheaper that the least costly Elegance hatch model....

You're right, the Skoda is a better car for these kinds of people but only if their prepared to spend the money on one. Also it could be argued now that Skoda are a well regarded manufacturer in their own right and people buy them because they like them, not just because its 4 wheels and 5 seats and cheap if you catch my drift.

So soon after the BMW debacle it's not surprising none of the 'mainstream' manufacturers were willing to take such a risk.

But you are here posting and reading comments on an internet forum about cars, so you obviously don't view purchasing a car in the same indifferent way as some do. There are those out there that see a new car as nothing more than 'transport' and couldn't care less about any brand credibility issues.

You obviously know nothing about the way BMW systematically destroyed Rover as a manufacturer.

Some of us involved at the time know the truth, they sucked everything they could out of Rover and then dumped the carcass.

They bought the Rover Group cheap, then took its knowledge of front wheel drive, some thing they could not develop themselves, they took the four wheel drive system, again something they did not have the ability to design themselves, they took the designs of the RDX60 and built it as the 1series, they took the fully developed Mini, they took our pensions

They deliberately played down the 75 at its launch, hinting that the company was not going to survive, as it was a much better vehicle than their rubbish, they deliberately designed the indicators on the 75 at a point where any dropping of the suspension would make it illegal ( hence why the ZT had to have a new front end to get round this)

They stopped the redevelopment of the 45 interior and Dacia, leaving it with the old facia

When they moved out of Land Rover they took all the engineering computers and data

Before BMW got their hands on Rover it was making a profit

I hate that bloody company with a vengeance for what they did to many of my friends

Fair shout...sounds very much like they bought it to asset strip.

Wasnt aware of the FWD tech and 1 series either.
