DSG Box after 80,000 miles

Featured Replies

Would an Octavia made in 2005 with a DSG box which has done 80k be ok IF the oil change at 40k had been done and the one just now at 80k had been done ? Its a 2.0litre oil burner by the way. Ta

No reason why not.

As long as it's been serviced to the right schedule then that's as sure as you can be.

Phil

I test drove a Passat DSG before purchasing my 2005 DSG Octavia.

The Passat stalled a few times when pulled up at traffic lights (still in "D") which put me right off. Suspect this is a biggie, could be wrong though.

Test drive is crucial, but hopefully fine as my Octavia has been.

Dare I mention the flywheel?

You dare.... what is it :notme:

There was a rattle on mine, seemed most noticeable just behind the front passenger-side wheel, which turned out to be the DMF - Dual Mass Flywheel, luckily noticed as I was purchasing the car and the garage agreed to replace it at their cost.

If this is ok and the car drives and changes fine, then should be ok.

For reference, you cannot have a SMF - Single Mass Flywheel replacement on a DSG if this is brought up.

That mileage over that many years isn't anything to be concerned about. My VRS DSG has done just over that mileage and it's an 11 plate.

You've confirmed it has been serviced properly so as long as the car has been driven with respect, you've nothing to worry about. Many taxis have done a lot more!

I have sent an email to the selling dealer to ask as the advert was somewhat free of service information !!! It should of had 2 gearbox oil changes given its mileage, anything else and i may be walking away, and i need to also see a cambelt change somewhere in that paperwork as well.

I will probably get stoned (not drugs or beer unfortunately) for saying this but IMO (and some others) the gearbox oil changes are not the be all and end all.

Others have mentioned large mileages on DSG boxes without oil changes and without issues. I an not saying don't do it though.

Assuming the dealer is a way away, yes get as much info as you can, but I think the number of previous owners can give a good idea of the likely reliability of the car assuming it is in generally good condition, with at least some service history. A lot of service costs are checks only (so long as said checks do not find a fault).

If it does not test drive and behave / perform as you would expect, then walk away.

Good luck with your choice.
