Ice Help...

Ok, help required please people....

I've got an Alpine 9835r head unit fitted, running a JL amp and Boston speakers. However the problem is the the system has started playing up.

I drive off and the front speakers don't play, only the rears (which aren't powered by the amp), so i'll turn up the volume to get a decent volume. Then randomly the fronts will kick in (well crackle, then work fine), nearly scaring me to death because of the volume. Doesn't seem to have any pattern they just come on when they feel like it, sometimes not at all. Will be fine at the end of a journey, then start a new journey maybe an hour or so later and it will play up again.

Is driving me CRAZY

Sounds like an amp problem.... i know that much as the amp doesn' t turn on, but the connection at the amp is fine, and when i've checked the head unit it seems ok.

I didn't fit any of it myself it was fitted by CEL Direct, who i rate for value and product knowledge but not fitting!

Anyone any suggestions... or anyone local willing to have a look???!

Ta very much.

its either a loose connecion, fooked amp or fooked front output on the headunit. i suggest a pro to ook at it mate

Cool! Cool!

Let me know where and when and I'll be there.

If you're going to Northampton from Oxford, assuming you're using the A43 you'll go straight past me.

And straight onto me as i'm just off the A43 by the SPECS cameras.

You've got to be closer than i thought then, where abouts are you based, Towcester??? I'm in Brackley....

Only thing I can relate to with those symptoms is a dodgy earth, although that usually meant it was OK at low volumes, but cut out / crackled on higher volumes due to the higher load not being earthed true.

If its generally random it could be the amp or the HU's output...

In Northampton itself, near Boothville college.

Can you eliminate the amp from the equation and see if the fronts work OK without it?

Sounds like a loose connection to me, I had a random crackle/total loss from my F/N/S speaker, I found a loose connection after digging around.

I would initially suggest checking every single connection from one end of the system to the other.
